DS 6 mo waking 2-3 times for BF during the night. am beyond exhausted.

Usually he wakes with a groan, grumbels for 5 mins then when he cries I go in and feed.

last night he grumbled. But it never reached a cry - he groaned and whimpered and gave a little wail before giving up and going to sleep after 10 mins. No crying, no tears, but definitely a bit pissed off. Then I felt so guilty I couldn't get back to sleep.

Was I cruel? Did I leave him to CIO? Was he upset that I wasn't there? Or would he have made a bigger deal of it if he was really hungry?

So - is that cruel or the way forward?

It's the way forwards! He didn't get himself into a lather of distress - he protested, vaguely, for a little while, then drifted off to sleep.

Don't feel bad!

If he went back to sleep then he wasn't hungry. And if he didn't cry then it wasn't CIO.

thanks!

fingers crossed we get a repeat performance. I felt so bad that I didn't respond but I guess if he really needed me I'd have known about it!

My DD does this and it is just her way of settling herself back to sleep. It's almost as if she's found herself a bit awake and doesn't like it much so grumbles about it but is really too sleepy to worry that much and just drifts back off.

It's nothing to worry about. I'd look on it as a good thing that he can now settle himself back to sleep.
