Rousing them an hour before they wake????

Someone suggested this to me. If baby is waking early you go in and gently rouse them an hour before hand and they fall back into a deep sleep and sleep past their normal early wake up time.
Does this actually work?
Can it be used on an 18 month old?
Ds used to sleep until 7.20-8am.....Not anymore now we are up way before the birds.
Ive tried all the tips on here apart from this one.
Advise would be greatly received.

I don,t know if it would work - I'm sure someone will though.

I was just thinking about whether I would manage to get up and wake them and get myself back to sleep

I tried it with my dd when she had started waking at 5.30am. She must have been about 18/19 months old when I tried it.

The first night I had to go for a wee at about 4.20am so thought I'd try it - changed dd's nappy while she was in the cot. It was a bit tricky and at one point dd rolled over onto her tummy which wasnt helpful!! She didnt wake properly but moaned and wriggled a bit. The second night dd woke up crying at around 4am so I didnt have to try to wake her up a bit myself. I never did it the third night at all.

I dont know if it was coincidence or whether the wake to sleep worked but she stopped waking at 5.30am and now wakes around 6.30/6.45am which is what she was doing prior to the early waking.

Its recommended to try for at least 3 nights and is supposed to re-jig their sleep cycles. It must be worth a try especially if you've tried everything else.

As Im pregnant and very tired Im willing to try anything!
So gently rouse him.... does that mean pick him up do you think? I certainly dont want to wake him up, that would be worse.lol
Or maybe Ill get dh to do it and then there will be no worries about me not being able to go back to sleep.hehe

You could maybe get him just to nudge him a bit or adjust the bedclothes or something - just something to bring him out of a deep sleep without him fully waking up. When I was doing dd's nappy I was petrified she would wake up screaming but thankfully that never happened!!

Right Im going to try it.....

This is a Baby Whisperer thing. You don't fully wake them, just give them a bit of a nudge, move them around a bit etc. so they come out of deep sleep. Do it for three nights and that's supposed to break the cycle. Good luck.
