advice on introducing a comforter to 15m dd

Hi all, just wanted some advice on whether or not to introduce a comforter to my dd would be a good idea to aid her horrendous sleep. So a few questions:

good idea?
what brand/make? (thinking cuskiboo)
how long will it take roughly?
can you share your own experience with me? (pretty please)

Any help much appreciated as i'm attempting to use Pantley's no cry sleep solution and she suggests this may help.

I have been trying to introduce a comforter to my DD for months but she's not got attached to anything really. The best bit of advice I was given was as soon as they start getting attached then go and buy a few more spares. But bear in mind that she might not get attached in the first place.

thanks timeoutofmind, I have read too that it can be hard especially when they are older but i'm happy to try anything. Glad you replied, thought I was typing invisible posts!

Same here....I've been trying for ds 5 mo...but he's resisting. I tried putting it inside my top for an hour or two so it got my scent. And also had it between us when feeding....so instead of grabbing onto me/my clothes he held the comforter. I keep trying. He seems to prefer things with some texture not a fleecy/fluffy style comforter in some shops. Let me know if anything works for you. Good luck.Smile

thanks forcedinsomnia hopefully I will be able to get her attached to one soon. I will let you know if anything works for me :)

You could try putting a couple of items in her cot with her and she if she chooses one. My DD at 17 months has never had a comforter and always resisted my attempts to get her to have one. So I've given up. I put some soft toys in her cot and when she wakes up I can hear her playing with them, but if they are in there before she's asleep she has to chuck them all out, so I pop them in when she's gone to sleep. She has a week or so when something is a favourite and then it changes to something else.

A friend has some kind of musical thing that is attached to the side of her cot that her DS can turn on and when he wakes in the night he presses the button to turn it on and it soothes him back to sleep. Might this help?

DD is now 18months and at about 8 months became very attached to a small fleecy pram blanket with a satin type edge. I have watched her and she seems to like the difference in texture and sort of strokes it so it tickles her palm. I would say go for something fast drying like fleece and agree with having a spare and wash at least every week so they don't get smelly!

thanks uksky and mewkins will try out your suggestions :)

I love taggies. My son sucks them like a dummy. We have a couple, so no worries about losing them. One is actually seen on to a bear so very cuddly! Can't do links - on phone - but I got mine off eBay.

smackapacca · 15/01/2012 00:06

Sewn onto bear!

My boys had cuskis from birth and ds2 still takes his everywhere- he is 2.5. Ds1 has his in bed, he is 5.

mauwmauw · 16/01/2012 20:10

Smackapacca and pippilongbottom thanks for your suggestions, I looked at taggies and cuskis but didn't want to pay through the nose fork out until I know she will use them. Maybe I will buy one of each and see if she gets attached although she does have 2 toys she goes to bed with and plays with although she doesn't seem all that attached to them she does kiss them.

We have a Taggies - or 'Raggy Tag' as I think its called..we gave it to our little one at a young age..she loves it and will not sleep without it, we never had a dummy as she soothed herself with her Taggies..would recommend it but then all kids are different..sorry just read your post on the cost..Yes they are pricey totally understand..maybe you could try making your own?..

smackapacca · 17/01/2012 21:43

this is the Ebay taggy I got.
