Need some advice my 9 month old keeps waking at 5am. We made her bedtime later and it made no difference soooooo tired. She has two sleeps one in the am and one in the afternoon. Her naps are 45 mins and 1hr sometime 1 and a half. She has two bottles one in the morning one at bed time, breakfast, snack, lunch, snack dinner. So lots of food. Has bath then bed at 630pm, she seems pretty awake is tired at her nap times and bedtime. Am at a loss as to why she wakes so early...... dont know what else to try, any ideas?

My DCs are older now and I can clearly remember DD2 going through about 6 months where she was waking at 4.30 - 5 every morning and not going back to sleep - she was nearly 2. It was an absolute killer!!! We tried shaking up her routine, more naps, less naps, no naps, early bedtime, late bedtime, light dinner, heavy dinner, dream feed, no dream feed etc and nothing worked. I think it was just a phase she went through at the time.

No advice really but sometimes it's just a habit that they need to work out of. I've heard that waking them in the night (i.e. 3am) might just disrupt the sleep cycle enough to "reset" it but never wanted to sacrifice my sleep had the guts to try it.

Good luck Grin

Lol yeah dont think il do the 3am thing she sleeps really well all through the night, could take time to resettle if i do that. Going for a weekend away so fingures crossed the change of place does something lol :)

Seriously, wake to sleep works really well. Look it up on here but basically just nudge her a bit so she stirs 30 minutes before her usual wake up time. We did this with DS for 3 nights in a row and it moved his actual wake up time by an hour. Was completely worth 3 nights of us having to wake up then.

So would i need to nudge her at 430am she usually wakes at 5. I just think shed wake up as thats very close to normal wake up. Have made her stir before we go to bed at 10ish when i changed her nappy just incase that was tge problem. Its not that though.

That's the idea. I think there's an article on here about it in the baby section of the website.

We just prodded him slightly. He pursed his lips but kept sleeping.

Worth a try at any rate.

DD has virtually the same routine as yours and a similar problem though tries and fails to go back to sleep. I just started my own thread... I am sure it'll just be a phase as ours does it for a few weeks then sleeps better fore a while but it might be a very long phase! Wish I could help, but you have my sympathy!

I reckon its a phase dont think il do the proding thing as i really just think she'd wake up and would then be a 430 start instead of 5. We are off to my sisters over night soon so hopefully that'll change things up abit, shall see what happens. Will keep the proding in mind if all else fails.:)
