I am so hacked off!

So here I am, its 4.45 am and DS2 has been awake since 2.30 am. Every night he does this, although tonight is particularly bad I must say. He wakes about 2.30/3 am and is awake for an hour or so. Chatting, crashing about, crying, shouting and generally keeping the house awake. DH though normally sleeps through most of it (wish I could do that!) but even he is being kept awake tonight. Poor DS1 and DD are getting so tired as well. DS2 has no trouble going to sleep by himself for daytime naps and at bedtime but during the night its a complete nightmare. I have got fed up of lying there listening to him tonight I thought I would come downstairs, get something to eat and have a moan on MN, although I expect you are all fast asleep.

Hi poppiesinaline. I'm sorry you're having such bad night times. Hope you all got back to sleep eventually. How old is DS2 and how long are his daytime naps? Mine used to be awake for hours in the night after I fed him but I got so tired that I started just putting him straight back in his moses basket to teach him to settle himself. This was when he was 8 weeks old. After a few nights he got used to the idea and having chatted and moaned for 15/20 minutes would go back to sleep. I also feed him in the semi dark and try not to chat and smile too much at him, although that part is difficult!, and try not to let the whole process take more than 30/40 minutes. I think long day time naps have an effect as well. Mine is 13 weeks now and sometimes still sleeps for over 5 hours a day - that makes night times more unsettled.

Probably no help to you at all since you are a three times expert mum but I do feel for you.

Could he be teething? My dd (14 months) does this whenever she's teething.

He's 9 months. True, probably is teething. So annoying though! He eventually went back to sleep at 5.15 am! We are all very grumpy today!!

If it is teeth, at least you know it will stop again soon.... until next time! You have my sympathies!

DD got her first two teeth at 4.5 months and now has numbers 13,14,15 and 16 coming through all at once! I keep telling myself - only 4 more after this lot.

My DS is almost 10 months and we went through this when he was about 7-8 months old. He would wake around 2ish and be awake for about two to two and a half hours. At the time, I felt like it almost killed me !!! Then two teeth popped through within a week of each other and a week or so later two more started to show. As soon as they came through, he started sleeping through the night and now goes to bed at 6.30pm and (usually) sleeps until either 6.15 or 7.15 (no idea why there is an hours difference ).

Hope things settle for you soon. I really feel for you but it will pass.

I hope tonight is better for you Poppies
