10 month old DD suddenly waking at night

DD has started to wake up once during the night, usually between 10.30pm and 1am.
She's eating and drinking the same as normal. I think she had a growth spurt justa while back where she was eating for England but luckily, she was also sleeping for England! She has her 2 bottom teeth but I cannot feel her top ones at all so I guess it could be that her teeth are annoying her. When i go into her she stops crying straight away but if I dont pick her up, she'll start up again. Once I pick her up she stops and just sits on my lap quite happy, playing with the belt on my dressing gown or just looking around her. I try very hard not to give her much attention, I just have a little light coming in the room from the landing.

I've tried just putting her straight back in the cot as soon as she stops crying but she'll be crying again either before I get the chance to leave the room or at least within about the next 2 mins.

I've tried cuddling her until she's cosy and sleepy and then putting her back in the cot but the same thing usually happens although if this is the 6th attempt or so then she'll probably finally go back to sleep.

I can't rule out that it's not her teeth (I give her teething granules which she normally takes with delight althoguhs uddenly these last few nights she wont take them at all) so last night I gave her Medised (she also has a runny nose but then she alwyas has a runny nose!) but she was still awake and crying.

Am I missing somehting perhaps? Is it just a phase common with this age and being a bit more aware of her surroundings? Or is she playing games with me? Could it be anythign to do with what she has for tea (usually about 5.15/5.45)?

Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully recieved.

TIA

Is she cold? What's she wearing to bed and how warm's the room?

Hi, how is she through the day. Is it the stranger anxiety phase. I know it is in the middle of the night but it could be that she is waking up and think you have abandoned her. How does she go to sleep. Can she put herself back to sleep or do you normally nurse her to sleep at bedtime. Maybe you could try a blanket/teddy that has your scent on it. It may just be enough to soothe her.

Thanks for replying.
Her room ranges at the moment from 16 to 19. She certainly never feels cold even when it does get to 16. She sleeps in popper vest, pajama top and sleeping bag (2.5 tog). When the forecast is for a cooler night I put her PJ bottoms on too.

During the day she has usually just one sleep, either in her pushchair, the car or her cot depending on what we're doing that day.
She always go to her cot awake, always has done really. I've never really had to cuddle her to sleep except perhaps when she' been poorly or overtired.
She doesn't have a favourite toy, a few teddies etc in her cot but she hasn't really paid them much attention.

Funnily enough, my just posting the message on Mumsnet worked wonders as last night she didn't wake at all!!!! So even just you folks thinking about how to help was enough. We'll see what happenes tonight thoiugh. Only thing i did differently yesertday was that i gave her a lighter tea. I shall do the same today and see if last night was just a fluke.

same thing happened to me - dd slept through from 4 months - 10 months then started waking up. sounds a bit like a separation anxiety thing. idea for a comforter is a good one. you might have to be a bit tougher if you want your night back. or you might choose to ride with it and take the broken nights while she goes through this phase. not much help, i know, but she will get through it. (and afterwards they'll be something else to stress about!)
