High pitch night screaming/Insecurities

Hi. I wonder if anyone can help with this problem.
I am due to give birth to my 3rd in a few weeks. Everything was fine until 2 weeks ago I had to go to hospital with my husband as I was experiencing pains. Everything was fine but problems started with my 2 yr old.

From then on she has begun to scream all day and has become very clingy. the screaming stops when she gets the attention. The screaming has now started at night. She screams when she is put to bed but eventually settles, but during the night she wakes and starts this high pitch scream and does not stop unless I or my husband stand by her bed and comfort her. She is also constantly screaming for 'mummy' and 'daddy' She then agrees to go to sleep and says goodnight but as soon as we walk out of the door it all starts again. We have started to do something that we have never done before with either of our children and put her in bed with us to sleep. this cams her and she then sleeps well. But we are using this as a last resort as we do not want her to get into the habit of sleeping with us.

We live in a block of flats and are conscious of the neighbours and really need to sort this out quickly but just don't know what to do for the best.

One relief is that our eldest, who shares a room with her sleeps through it.

Could this possibly be something to do with the new baby coming? Is it insecurity on her part? I really don't know because we were not in this situation with our eldest.

Any advice will be most appreciated.

you may find a better responce in parenting / sleep

sounds really tough for you though, do you have much RL support?

All I suggest is giving her lots of positive attention when she is being "good" and ignoring the bad behaviour. Does she have a routine at all?

Yes. The routine has been constant and we have had no problems previously. We had problems with our eldest in the first few weeks but my husband set up a night time routine and it has worked well for both until now.

Hi PrincessN,

We're moving this thread to Sleep because we think you'll get more response there.
