Dd is for some reason refusing to sleep in her cot she wants to be asleep but keeps waking, I've spent the last two evenings sitting with her putting her down her screaming me settling her over and over and over till I've given up and gone to bed with her. I'm on my own with her 24/7 and my few hours in the evening were keeping me sane

Aww, it is hard when they have phrases of not going to sleep easily. The only thing you can be sure of, it is a phrase and she will change her sleep pattern again at some point.

I feel whatever is the easiest way of meeting our child's needs balanced with my needs for a break varies night from night. Some nights I feed baby to sleep in our bed and sneak off once she is asleep.

Others nights I put her to bed in the kids room in the kids room, where she might sleep or might stay up and play a bit.

Yet other nights I have her on my knee or sleeping on the sofa.

In short whatever gives us the best evening/night. What would you prefer to do ?

I don't really have any advice - just wanting to offer a bit of support. Which bits of Of NCSS did you try? it is soul destroying trying to make sleep changes- Maybe you are nearly there tho and just need to keep going with your current strategy and it might all come together in the next couple of nights? Also is it possible she is teething or something else is upsetting her at the moment?

sunnyweather · 17/12/2011 20:49

Sorry I seem to have answered in the wrong thread( I saw that u posted twice)

ScaryFairy28 · 17/12/2011 20:51

I've tried feeding her to sleep in my bed which is usually my fail safe but she's still waking.
Out of the ncss I've tried the gradual withdrawal to help her fall asleep without feeding which she can now do but now can't then be put down.
I'm starting to feel the only option is CIO which I really don't agree with.

Sunny sorry didn't even notice your weren't answering that question! Wanted to put two different questions as I'm noticing people only look at ones that interest them so if you post lots of question under one you miss people.

Have you tried putting her to sleep in a pram/moses basket/sofa downstairs with you ? Or take her for a brief walk in pram/sling to get some fresh air ? Cuddle her whilst watching TV, knowing she'll have a long nap tomorrow when you can grab a bit of me time ? Or more milk, enough milk and she's more likely to get sleepy ?

nethunsreject · 17/12/2011 20:59

What age is she? Los go through a good few sleep regressions when they are harder to settle than usual.

Fwiw, I nurse ds2 then put him down while I have my evening. When he was younger, there were phases where he just couldn't settle. They did pass, but it is hard and it is nice to have a bit of time to yoursel, even an hour. COuld anyone give you a hand at all?

sunnyweather · 17/12/2011 21:07

Hope that I've not totally messed up your threads now! It all sounds v familiar to me - ds will only sleep if he is physically touching me- sleeps great ( well, sleeps) if I'm there, wakes frequently if he is in his cot. Sometimes I feel fine about it , other times it gets me down.
Are you wanting to get it sorted so that she can go to sleep ok when she is at nursery?

ScaryFairy28 · 17/12/2011 21:13

Thanks ladies she's asleep for now in my bed. Shes not a good napper 2 or 3 x 30 mins don't think she needs it much cos when I go to bed she'll happily sleep till 9 in the morning as long as I sit in bed reading and don't get up! I'll try putting her in her pram tomorrow night if she won't settle. I thought maybe it was her teeth but have her Calpol, ibuprofen and bonjella tonight which hadn't helped!

Oh and sorry she's seven months. Yeah wanted to get her to be able to sleep on her own for when I go back to work. And suddenly she can fall asleep without feeding but just not stay asleep feel like I've broken her Sad

I know the feel scary! I have been up and down for 2 hours trying to get mine to sleep and at the mo he will only sleep on me or in my bed! finally down prob for only half hour then will pro end up in my bed. he's teething thou so am trying hard to think this will not last forever!!!!

WoTmania · 17/12/2011 21:28

oh, it's a toguh one. I found that all of my DC went throguh a phase of sleeping less well at between 7 and 9 months. It usually sorted itself out with time. I don't know if that's any help but it's not abnormal (you haven't 'broken' her) and it passes.

aswellasyou · 17/12/2011 21:28

I rock my daughter to sleep in a rocker chair and then take her to bed with me when I go. I've been doing this since she was about 7 months (now 15 months) and it works well for us. I'm a single parent (I'm not sure if that's what you meant by being alone with her 24/7) so it was really nice to not be attached to her all the time, after spending the first 7 months with her only sleeping while lying on or against me. She started nursery full time at 12 months and got used to going to sleep there very quickly. She'll now easily sleep 1.5-2 hours straight with another 10 or more children in the room. Xmas Hmm It's also improved her ability to get to sleep at home.

I don't know if this post is at all helpful! Xmas Confused

Babieseverywhere · 17/12/2011 21:29

LOL, you have not broken her, babies change and grow all the time. Glad she is asleep now and good luck with the pram tomorrow evening.

WoTmania · 17/12/2011 21:33

another thing is that quite often separation anxiety can kick in around now. Maybe she just needs to know you're there?

RobinSparkles · 17/12/2011 21:35

I feel your pain OP! My DD2 is almost 10 months old and was a dream baby from birth but 6 months and teething hit and she hasn't been the same since Sad

At first she was just a bit hit and miss at nights - would sleep through some nights and be fine and wake up some nights in pain, was fine if rocked back to sleep etc but these past couple of weeks she will NOT sleep in her cot all night! I don't understand it at all Confused she goes down fine into her cot for naps and at the beginning of the night but an hour or two later she'll be crying and awake and won't sleep except in my bed and I don't really want her there TBH as she takes up too much room and I can't sleep!

DD1 never came into our bed - God knows what I've done differently Confused I've always put her down (or tried to put her down) awake so that she doesnt wake up frightened and confused but it doesn't seem to have worked this time around!

Sorry to ramble and go on!

Hopefully it is a phase and will pass soon, for the both of us! Smile
