Continual waking through the night

Dd is 6 months next Friday. She'll go down in her cot after feed at 7.30ish she is pretty much asleep when we put her down. She'll sleep for about an hour then stirs and either burbles away or cries. If she cries we go in and put her dummy in or just put a hand on her chest and she drops straight back off. If shes awake properly it can take about 5 mins of hand holding and chest patting. This repeats pretty much every hour until we get fed up and bring her into bed with us, where she sleeps pretty well through to about 7.30ish. She won't feed at all during any of the night wakes, we realise this can't go on but not sure what to do next, have been reading all the CIO, CC and PUPD methods but not sure which way to go? thanks

We are in exactly the same situation (except for the feeding bit) hence the fact I am here at 4am looking for any bit of info that might help. So no help I'm afraid but lots of sympathy and I will be reading answers with interest. I was hoping that by six months we would be getting more than 90mins sleep in one go!

Sorry, no help but we've recently started having this problem after just having 2-3 wakings/feeds per night DD (3mo) is now waking 5-6 times then sometime between 4-5.30 decides its time for the day to start. Will see if anyone gives you any top tips!

just a thought, could she be teething? I remember this stage with DS, he slept really well age 3-4 months and then all of a sudden the nightmare began with wake-ups almost every hour every night. Then at 5.5 months, two bottom teeth appeared. We've just gone through pretty much the same thing, with quite a few nightmare nights, and VOILA! two top teeth have appeared. He's 9 months and has never really slept well but looking back, the worst has always been before the teeth have appeared...
Could be the case with your DD, in which case, all you can do is wait it out, sorry

She is dribbling for England and grabbing her ears a lot which I've read can be symptoms. She's been like this for about 3 weeks now, how long does it take for the teeth to actually show? She came into bed with us at about 2am last night and she slept quite well had a couple of cries but fell straight back to sleep with a quick hand on the chest. We're just getting a lot of "you should leave her to cry" and "don't take her in to your bed, she'll never leave it". She was a brill sleeper from 6 weeks to 19 weeks, then it all just went gradually downhill!! We just wondered whether at 6 months we should be trying something to help her sleep?

The teeth can take a while to come through, DS had been 'teething' for about 4-5 weeks before the top ones cam through. Before this I had taken him to see GP regarding his ear pulling (ear infection?), and seriously rancid nappies (allergy/bug?). GP had felt his gums and said that he was teething quite badly and that we should use teething gels and ibuprofen etc. to ease his pain and maybe he would sleep better. Sometimes the gels and painkillers seemed to be helping and other times they made no difference, which makes me think that maybe he wasn't always suffering from pain, but possibly god-knows-what other sensations feels when one is teething. You're always going to get a lot of conflicting advice when it comes to a badly sleeping baby, but the best you can do is really do what feels best for you and your baby (and the rest of the family). If your DD is suffering from teething, there's not much you can do about the sleep ie. sleep training and leaving her to cry. I would try and see if you can determine if there are teeth coming through. If she's 6 months, it's more than likely. Good luck!

Thanks for that, perhaps it is her teeth, I'm only guessing she's not in any pain as she's not at all grumpy, just won't sleep at night! We have tried her with calprofen just in case but it really didn't see to make any difference. Plus I don't know how much she actually took as she seemed to spit most of it out! Must admit after another bad night where she came in to us at 2am we're all just after a good nights sleep for us all! I think we'll give it til after all the visiting over Christmas and see how she is then.
