My boys started sharing a room today - will their sleep go to pot?

My boys are both good sleepers.

We are having renovations done to the house so they have to share for at least 8 weeks.

Do sharers sleep as well as they do on their own?

Only in the short term until the novelty wears off IME. Hang in. It'll be worth it.

BTW they are 4 and 16 months

Cut them some slack for the first couple of nights then they'll get bored with it.

Thanks SM.

DS2 screamed his head off - evidently he prefers his own room. Then DS1 started howling that his brother was making a noise.

Eventually they both fell asleep about an hour after they normally go to bed.

We are going travelling in May for 8 months so we thought it would be a good thing to get them used to different sleeping conditions.

I expect a rough night

ds and dd share reasonably well, at least they both go to sleep and stay asleep well. Problem is that ds wakes up early and wakes up dd. nothing terrible though.

you might be pleasantly surprised!

Mine were good sleepers before they went in together and it didn't change. Now and again one of them wakes the other up early but not often. They love sharing now. DD is ill tonight and I tried to out her to bed early but she wouldn't go to sleep without her brother!

Thanks all, I feel a bit reassured.

We don't have much choice - DS2's room is in the middle of major structural changes to the house, it will be dusty so he can't sleep there.

I'd love mine to be like yours Puddle! I think it's lovely when siblings are close like that.

I have done as you are - move them in together for a while when decorating or once when renting- I would say you dont really notice a change but when you put them apart again you say - 'they seem better!'

Mine have always shared, and sleep extremely well.

The only downside is ds2 has learned too well how to get up without disturbing ds1 or anyone else.
He is 6 now and on Saturday got up apparently 3 hrs before anyone else in the house
But everytime I've quizzed him on the subject he is very cagey as to what he got up to!

(He generally gets up before us, but not usually 3 hrs, and usually there is some evidence as to what he's been doing!)

Just to report back - things are going ok.

DS2 napped well today and screamed for about 15 minutes on and off tonight. DS1 is being very patient considering his room has been invaded.

They woke at 6.45 this morning, a little earlier than usual but not too traumatic.
