Adult sleep prob.

I can get to sleep in about ten minutes when I go to bed which could be 9pm, 10pm, 11pm or midnight.

The prob is I always wake up somewhere between 3am and 4am and I can never get back to sleep.

Any ideas that will help me?

I'm in the same boat. First I thought it was because I was on a special low calorie diet. But that has finished now and there is no improvement. I tried no caffeine after noon and no liquids after 8pm. No help. Today I trying no diet drink just in case the sweetener is doing something.

I have had 4 months of this now and am feeling so run down and depressed. Have constant illness and not exercising as much because of illness and tiredness.

So hopefully someone will have some good suggestions. I will try the go next week if nothing improves.

Gp I meant. Annoying predictive text.

Sorry, no help I'm afraid but just sympathy. I get the same. Whenever I think it's improving son gets ill or something and sets it back!

I can't offer any advice but can totally sympathise. I'm exactly the same Sad.

I exercise regularly, try and get plently of fresh air, eat well and on a recent health check came out on top for everything.

My DH says he's never known anyone fall to sleep as fast as I do. I could easily go to bed at 9.30 but try and last until 11.00 so I'm extra sleepy iyswim. I've tried all the usual suggested ideas but with no luck.

Is your name a reference to your age? If so, I'm the same age and wondered if it's something to do with that? Changing hormones? Dare I say it - getting old Angry.

I will keep an eye on this post.

I've been suffering with the same same problem for ages and I've found nothing that has helped...so I sympathise with everyone on this thread.

I have this running in two places now the answers are pouring in...

I have an under active thyriod that was the cause of sleepness nights a few years ago, I am on tablets now but the sleep is now getting worse again but my levels are ok.

I get bouts of insomnia like you describe, waking in early hours and unable to get back to sleep.

For me it is usually directly linked to anxiety, used to happen when I was stressed at work, at the moment I'm sleeping badly because I'm organising an event at the weekend and wake up fretting about it.

I cut out caffeine after 12noon, and try and have a calm wind-down before bed. When it gets really bad I do resort to some Nytol, but this isn't really a long-term solution. I also get up and out of bed if I'd just lying there wide awake. I tend to go downstairs and read for a while and that sometimes helps me to feel sleepy enough to go back up to bed.

I used to be like this off and on too - I now find problem sorted if I don't try and go to bed too early. Much better to go up at midnight/1am and get 6 hours good sleep than to go up at 10pm and then do the 4am toss and turn.
Btw the needing 10 hours sleep thing is a bit of a myth anyway.
Try googling sleep restriction and sleep hygiene for more tips.

Thanks for all the advice.
