This is getting stupid now, my dd woke from her nap at around 3.15pm, her feed was due around 5.00 anyway I bathed her, fed her, read her a story and put her down earlier than usual around 5.30pm knowing that it could around 1/2 hr for her to get herself to sleep, its now almost 7.00 and she is still awake, arrrrggghhhh and hubbie has been to the match and is now out of the booze so i'm left on my own arrrrggghhhhh again

my dd shakes head from side to side, I think this is a way of trying to stay awake, we dream feed inbetween 10.00 10.30 however she is waking up around 4.30-5.00am and then having nap at 6.30-7.00 so I need to cut out the waking up at 4.30, got the baby whisperer book and from what i can make out its habitual waking and she suggests setting alarm an hour early before baby usually wakes and then gently rousing them but not so that they are fully awake, she recommends doing this for 3 nights in a row and apparently this is supposed to work

Throw the baby books out ShellyBelly - or at least, take it with a pinch of salt. If I read it correctly, your dd goes to sleep early and wakes only once at night. While I'm sure we all know the wonder babies who slept through from 2 days old, at 6 months she sounds as if she is doing fine!

Thanks for the advice D's head shaking is when he is asleep (for that rare hour or two) tried to dream feed but he still insists on waking up i am knackered. Does this sound normal..... sleep at 8pm...awake at midnight...awake at 4am..feed of 8oz at 5am..nap til 830am porridge and 5oz milk...nap for 1/2hr at 10am...lunch at 12 6-8 oz milk...meal and 4oz at 5pm...6-8oz at 7pm bed.Hurray you say thank gawd shes finished,,yap,,yap,,yap. Sorry just really tired and at the help of a kind soul who can wave a mjic wand and get the reassurance that he is normal !!

Joje, why do you feed him at 5am if he wakes at 4 or have I misunderstood. Also, does he not sleep again after his 10am nap?

Joje · 06/01/2006 14:19

OOPs yes he has a nap from 1pm - 3pm (ish)varies tho in length of time. When he wakes at 4 I dont feed him just either change or pop dummy in his mouth.

busywizzy · 06/01/2006 14:35

Joje, if you fed him at 4, might he then not wake again at 5 or have you tried that?

The only other observation I have is that 8pm seems late to be going to bed if he wakes from a nap at 3. My DS had a similar routine at that age but went to bed at 6.30pm. He's always been really easy to settle at night as he wasn't overly tired and then didn't usually wake until 4-5am ish (teething excluded !!!!)

Maybe you could try an earlier bedtime as bizarre as it sounds, I know lots of people who've tried this and found their little ones slept better and longer.

Good luck, hope it gets better for you soon.

Thanks for that I shall try an early night for the little cherub, last night was a nightmare I am sure he was hyper with his choc pud he was bouncing off his cot walls !! Do you think its possible to be hyper from choc pud ?

busywizzy · 07/01/2006 21:09

Joje, I believe anything and everything is possible with babies

I only ever give my DS a vegetarian tea and plain natural yogurt to make sure nothing affects his tummy during the night. It's taken so bloody long to get him sleeping through the night that I won't take a chance on anything affecting his sleep now. Just call me neurotic

Good luck with the earlier bedtime. Keep persevering for a few days if it doesn't work at first. Even if it doesn't help the night wakings, you'll get a bit more time to yourself which has got to be good.
