Cot to bed problems

DS has always been a good sleeper, gone to bed without any real protest and dropped off easily on his own

Well he's just moved into a big bed and he just won't stay there. Wants me or DP to lie next to him or he just keeps getting out. He droops off fairly quickly with one of us there but I fear this might not pass and become a habit. I've tried barricading his door- became hysterical. Have tried quietly and firmly returning him to his bed 12+ times until I gave up and sat with him until he went to sleep

Also he has never woken before 8am, more often a bit later. Yesterday he appeared at my bedside at 6.30am, this morning 5.50!!! He wouldn't go back to bed, I eventually gave up and he came in with me. He snuggled for about 10mins but got increasingly wider awake and was soon jumping on the bed

I've got a 12 week old and DP works shifts. I can't be doing with bedtime battles

CSM anyone recommend anything that will help me get him to stay in his bed and go to sleep?

Stay with him if it's quick. Just to get him use to the new bed (i find it odd sleeping in a new bed). Probably take a week or so.
Then work on gradually moving away (so stand by the door then leave as he drifts off).

Thanks iggly

He took ages tonight, DP was with him. As soon as he left I heard him get out of bed, he came into our room where I'd just finished feeding DD

Took him back to bed, he cried a bit but seems to have gone to sleep. I hope

You're right, I'll give it a week or so before despairing taking action

Now I think the early morning thing is partly due to him refusing to have the quilt tucked in, getting uncovered, and waking up cold. So tonight I've left the heating on in his room

DP covered him up when he left for work at 5 this morning. Clearly that didn't work

I may gave to buy a fleecy sleepsuit, although the though of all that ii polyester in bed makes me feel clammy Grin

Ah yes we've had the quilt thing. DS has only recently got the hang of one having been in his bed for 3 months now. I tuck one side in side ways and drap it over him so when he turns it stays. He was actually getting too hot - it was only once I took the 4 toy duvet out and used a blanket did he stop protesting.

I got DS some nice thick cotton PJs with a collar (so I could turn it up to keep his neck warm), stuck socks on plus a long sleeved vest on. This keeps him fairly warm with the heating on at the start and end of night. He also has two layers of curtains over the window keeping the heat in.

I tried polyester PJst he got horrible heat rash! Never again.

Sorry for the typos and terrible explanation of the duvet tucking in!!! Basically it's sideways instead of the normal way. We also started with it just on his legs - now he pulls it up to his chin at bedtime!
