Cot to bed - now no sleep!

Have just moved my 2 yr 7 m DS from a cot into his big bed. First few days went fine and he settles to sleep quite well (albeit with a low light on which he never used to have in a cot..) - but then when he stirs during the night he comes fully awake, puts all the lights on and starts playing, chatting, singing - I wouldn't mind if this was half an hour and then he dropped off again, but oh no, this can be for hours and hours - woke up last night at 3 and that was it for the rest of the night! Plus other random behaviour - screaming if it's dark and he wakes up and so on. Any ideas or do we just have to stick with it and deal with sleep deprivation - will it get better?!?!?

My dd2.5 cant reach the light switch. I must admit her room is toy free except for teddys. She does occasionally wake up and I hear her chatting, singing etc. But only for 10-15 mins before all goes quiet. Is he still napping during the day?

I'm trying to drop the nap (though he didn't have one yesterday and then had an awful night!) so maybe that will help - also I think we'll move the bed so he can't reach the light switch though he still has a little light that he could switch on. Does your daughter not have access to any lights? And doesn't she mind the dark? And what about naps? I suspect I'll just have to sit this out but it's painful!

No she doesn't have a light in her room at all and doesn't seem to mind so far. I suspect this might change when she goes nappy free at night as she won't be able to find the loo lol. She does still nap most days for 45 mins just after lunch but I always wake her at 3pm regardless what time she went to sleep to make sure I can wear her out in tine for bed. I hope it gets better for you. It sounds like it is all a novelty for your DS so far ....
