Every time I put my baby down to sleep she flips onto her tummy! What should/can I do?!

She is only 5mths, so not crawling or anything, has only recently learned to roll. I feel sorry for her cos as soon as she flips over she does a big contented sigh and starts snoring. She's such a crap sleeper I hate to interrupt what seems like a nice deep sleep but it's not safe is it?!!

If she can roll then leave her to sleep how she's comfy :)

If she has good head control then I think it's ok. DS 6mths has beel flipping himself over since 5mths and he's been fine. He has only just mastered flipping back. If she sleeps that way then she's happy, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If it helps the advice my mum was given when I was born was to put newborns to sleep on their fronts. It changes all the time!

Back is only ONE factor of the many that contribute to make things unsafe. You can put rolled up towels either side of her if you like, but personally I think that once they can move themselves THAT particular risk is no longer there.

MurderBloodstabsandgore · 31/10/2011 22:11

if they roll themselves, then you just leave them. :)

Leave her. All my 3 slept on their tummies from earlier than 5 mo. As Starlight says, it's one of several factors.

I think once they can flip over it means they have the strength and should be fine. My DD did the same at 4 mths and it freaked me out too.

Not really sure what else you can do really other than spend all the time standing over her whilst asleep.

PacificDogwood · 31/10/2011 22:15

Leave her. She has control, leave her in control.

Apparently I started sleeping on my front @ 4 months of age - and I still do (now 45).

RitaMorgan · 31/10/2011 22:16

If they can find their own position then it is fine to leave them. I would have thought putting rolled up towels in the cot would be dangerous though.

Thanks all! She is in my bed, don't know if that makes a difference. She still isn't near pillows or duvet tho. She can't flip back over so thrashes about a bit when she wakes!
