How can I get DS (5 weeks) to sleep with his head looking to the left?

We went to an osteopath for DS's digestion problems and she identified a problem with his neck meaning it was harder for him to look to the left. She corrected it and we have since noticed that he looks a lot more to the left than before, but he still always sleeps looking to the right.

Last time the osteopath said we really must get him to sleep looking to the left as well as the right, but didn't give any advice how to do this. I often put him down looking to the left but within minutes he's turned back to the right...

Any ideas/advice? Thanks

It sounds like your son has torticollis. He needs neck exercises otherwise he could end up with plagiocephaly which can be a huge problem later.

We had this with one of my sons when he was a newborn. It was suggested we used a tightly rolled tea towel or handtowel and put this next to his head so he was lying on his back looking up.Hope that makes sense.

My ds had exactly the same issue and as Fab says it's called torticollis I'm sure. My ds had a flat head so my hv referred us physio who then picked up this other issue. She gave us exercises to do with him, and encourage him to look the other way by turning him in the cot the other way, feeding him on my other side (ff fed), and other such things. I'd suggest asking your gp or hv to refer you to the physio and they'll help you get it sorted x

Be careful with using rolled up items. We tried that and DD ended up with her face against the blanket in her pram in the short time it took for me to have a wee.
