My child is currently in a travel cot but will soon need something bigger. Any point in investing in the little childrens bed or should i go straight to a good sized single bed with a cot side.

At 2 both my dd's were in normal sized single beds.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 26/10/2011 15:56

Straight to a single if you have room. A toddler bed is a massive waste of money imo. My ds has been in one since about 18 months or so as his escape antics actually made his cot quite dangerous. He's never needed a side rail either.

witchyhills · 26/10/2011 15:56

normal bed
can you put one side against the wall?

fuzzynavel · 26/10/2011 15:57

Put my DC straight into a single bed against the wall with a guard rail on other side.

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 26/10/2011 15:58

My Ds went into a normal bed at 18months (for various reasons)

The childrens beds ony last until they're about 4 or 5; I know DS was cramped last time he used DNiece's toddler bed, and he's not quite 4.

I'd say go for a normal bed... last onger Wink

Agree with fuzzynavel - we did the same.

when I moved house and my twin boys had their own room they went straight int big beds against the wall with a cot side as they wriggle around. They were 2 and a half.

ilovedjasondonovan · 26/10/2011 16:02

Big beds at 17 months and 22 months here. No problems.

cestlavielife · 26/10/2011 16:03

normal size bed coz you will inevitably end up lying on it with them at times when they sick etc

Lizzylou · 26/10/2011 16:04

Mine were in full sized single beds from 13/14months.
Had same prob with escaping as Fuckity, they also are restless sleepers and used to wake themselves up banging on the sides of the cot.
Those bed guards down one side, other against the wall and peaceful nights agogo.

sillybillies · 26/10/2011 16:11

another vote for single bed. DD was in one by 2 years old with no problems. I did put a big cushion on the floor next to the bed for a while but to be honest she rarely fell out.

Fiendarina · 26/10/2011 16:22

We went straight for a normal single bed when DD was about 2, as I was too mean to want to invest in the whole palaver of cotbed-sized bedding, before moving to a single bed later on anyway.
I did however buy Dream Tubes and a couple of Dream Tube sheets to stop DD falling out of bed (and was very glad to have a spare sheet when faced with middle of night sheet disasters). Also meant I could pack the sheet and deflated tube if we were going away, so DD could sleep in single beds elsewhere too.

dottynosleep · 26/10/2011 16:23

mine have all been in standard singles at that age (crib when tiny & swaddled, co-sleeping until night weaned at 18 months then into normal bed).
