Cotbed or normal bed?

My little girl is 14 months nearly and we have just moved into a bigger house.

Because of the lack of space in the previos house we had to use a travel cot.

Now we have got a bigger house my partners mum has given us some money to buy her a cotbed.

Should I waste my time and money getting a cotbed or should I move her into a proper bed.

She will be sharing a room with her 4year old sis at some point.

any advice??? What age should I move into a bed?

Move her to a bed as late as possible! DSs were both at least 2.5 and showed no interest in getting out of their cots.

I would say a cot then a single bed

if that is not an option then go for a cot bed - the biggest, best quality one you can find

keep her in a cot as long as poss, both mine were nearly 3

ds will be 3 in april and is still in his cot with no plans to move him yet

i'd buy a cheap regular cot and then go straight to a single bed.

I wouldn't go for a bed at 14 months although I know some people think it's a good idea. Dd's 3.2 and still in her cot though we plan to get her a bed in the new year. I'd go for a nice cot bed, she can sleep in it as a bed for quite a while I think.

Don't bother with cotbed. Complete waste of money cos she will grow out of it and you will have to buy a normal bed anyway. Do cot til past 2 years IMO and then bed when you have to. If you can't afford to buy a normal cot now, keep her in the travel cot. Mine went into a travel cot from a normal cot at about 18 months anyway cos they climbed out of normal cot and there was no way I was putting in a bed that young. She will be fine to stay in travel cot til she is old enough for bed IMO. Keep the money and put it towards a normal bed later.

Why do people always advise you to keep your children in a cot as long as possible? Genuine question here, I really don't get it.
Dd moved into a bed at 20 months as she had a new bedroom so didn't bother moving the cot.
Ds was in a bed by 14 months as he constantly woke himself banging himself or getting tangled in bars.
With a bed side on, I really don't see what is the problem.

my 1st daughter had a cot bed and was just over 2 when she was in it as a bed, 2nd daughter was in my room so had to have a travel cot(no room) and my 2rd one is the dilema of what to do... the travel cot is ideal and would save money but tbh I don't think she having a great time in it.(to be honnest the seem the most comfortable things to sleep in) I dunno I aint a baby??? I thought a cot of some sort would be brilliant for her and it was something I hoped she would have sooner but the house move was delayed by a few months. I edged with the cotbed idea because I knew the next step was not that far away but at the same time her being in a cot when she moves in with her sister was a safty thing. You know what 4 year olds are like they like to play mummy role (god knows what would happen)

Ohhh I dunno what to do.... I have looked around on the net and there are some bargains to be had this time of year, don't really want to miss out if you know what I mean. :S
