I left him to cry last night!

My 10 month old ds has never been a good sleeper and obviously I am shattered. Last night after trying to settle him twice in the small hours I finally gave up and left him to cry. After an excrutiating 15 minutes he gave up and went silent until morning. But what now, same tactic tonight? He has a dummy at night ( and sometimes during the day) and I feel that this has actually created the light sleeping.

my ds used to jump up and down in his cot (not at midnight though) but if he got up and wouldn't lie back down - I'd just leave the room and wait for him to cry before going back in. He got the message eventually. But sometimes I'd hear him chatting and banging around for 40 mins or so - he would eventually go to sleep - but his teddies would be tossed all around the cot!
Is she in a grobag - it tends to hinder the jumping a bit.

if she's bouncing and giggling she's a happy bunny and there's no reason why she shouldn't be a happy bunny on her own for a bit...

recite to yourself - she's warm, fed, watered, and has had attention all day (well, part of it for my ds) - she is fine.

My ds sits up, and I was worried he couldn't lie back down on his own. I now realise this is silly and if tired enough he will fall abck down into a sleeping position of sorts.Do you have a bedtime routine Kama?

We ALL understand that 'controlled crying is very, very hard - almost heart rendering, Lilliput.

My dh was very supportive and I kept shuffling in my seat , about to get up and go to ds, but he said 'sit down, my love'.

Ds never cried for more than 12-15 minutes, but even that was almost unbearable.

But it does work.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Kama, but his cold is terrible, I know some people think I'm being horrid carring on with the cc but I think if I stop now then it will send out a real mixed message. I've just put him down for the night and I can hear him already, don't know what to do as he didn't want much of a feed.

How was last night Lilliput?

Lilliput · 21/12/2005 09:59

last night was good, fell asleep quite quickly, but I had given him medised for his cold. There was a bit of moaning at about 4am but a switched off the baby monitor and ignored it. He woke at about 7.30!!
