Do babies sleep better on ironed sheets?

My DH insists they do. I have no idea! Thought I'd do a straw poll or something to see.

(My DH is a bit obsessed with everything being ironed, so I'm wondering if he's just telling me this so that I iron everything, which of course I will if it means me baby getting more sleep :o)

I iron the baby to make extra sure

JarethTheGoblinKing · 25/09/2011 21:04

Hully Grin

Must iron the high chair and the play mat. Wink

I think babies must like sleeping on wrinkly things best...no baby I know has failed to go to sleep on my Dad - he is known as The Baby Whisperer amongst our family and friends Smile

DorothyGherkins · 25/09/2011 21:05

I run better in ironed socks.

Tell DH you are sure they do, but only if they're ironed by their Daddies Grin

I think you had better tell us what other shit interesting gems he's come up with so that we can put you straight!!

Tigresswoods · 25/09/2011 21:11

I've heard it all now!

TapTapTapPenny · 25/09/2011 21:13

You know, if he irons the sheets and changes all the nappies and does all the hoovering (because babies sleep better in hoovered houses) and is in charge of all cooking, cleaning and shopping, it will help him bond with the baby.

If he doesn't do all the above, the baby won't like him. Not one bit. And will wake in the night wailing in sorrow at his rejection.

This is a true fact.

onepieceofcremeegg · 25/09/2011 21:13

Important note to breastfeeding mothers; you must iron your bras, otherwise if the baby drops off to sleep whilst feeding, and catches his/her little face on a wrinkled bra...Well that's almost as bad as unironed sheets.

And if you are ff, all of your own tops must be ironed smoothly (and anyone else who offers to give the baby a bottle).

EightiesChick · 25/09/2011 21:14

My DS is a brilliant sleeper and has never slept on an ironed sheet in his life. (Well, maybe the first nights in hospital, and even then I'm doubtful.) Plus, as has been said, cot sheets are the stretchy fitted ones so it would make no difference to iron them anyway. If your DH is so bothered he can get the iron out himself, for all the good it'll do.

EightiesChick · 25/09/2011 21:15

Ask your DH if he read this in the Daily Mail, by the way.

Loving TapTapPenny 's work!

FrauLindor · 25/09/2011 21:15

hahahahahahaha

Your DH is very funny. And sweet.

And if he wants the sheets ironed, he can do it himself.

Don't forget to iron his face, or the baby will not want to cuddle with him, all those wrinkles make it too uncomfortable.

LittleMilla · 25/09/2011 21:23

Pffffffffffffff! I have restrained from laughing at a post until now. But come on, really?? Really? Are you really being serious!?!?!?

But JUST IN CASE you're being serious. My DS likes to suck and scrunch and pull and UN-IRONED sucky that he, unsurprisingly, sucks. And tugs and generally kneads (sp). And he couldn't give a flying f*ck if it's ironed or not. And all of this, on a very un-ironed and usually a big bobbly, fitted sheet in his cot. I actually have to rememebr to change it more than every couple of weeks, as he's not a pukey baby and babies actually like demi-mingingness as it smells familiar.

FGS, he'd sleep caked in his own shyte given half the chance. And so an un-ironed sheet won't make the blindest big of difference!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 25/09/2011 21:23

If only. I think that would be the only reason that could tempt me to iron anything.

AuntieMonica · 25/09/2011 21:25

never mind ironing bras, i've ironed my nipples! and starched them

FeastofBeans · 25/09/2011 21:26

I love some of these responses (is the one about the weave on the flannelette for real??)

It might help to explain my DH's 'strange' obsession with ironing if I tell you he did 26 years in the military :o He does all his own ironing and is very good with chores generally, I can't complain at all.

He used to iron tea towels and our bedding but I've managed to convince him life's too short, so I think I can talk him round about this baby sheet thing too...

Well, do thank your DH for amusing us all tonight.

AuntieMonica · 25/09/2011 21:27

yup, sis really did brush the weave on the sheets Grin

LittleMilla · 25/09/2011 21:39

FeastofBeans sod the baby, I know that I sleep better in ironed sheets. We're in SW London and I'd be happy for your DH to alleviate our cleaning lady of some of her duties...!

Bless you (and him) though. One of my friends' husband is ex-military and he was actually bloody brilliant in the eary days - used to leave her meals (inc cups of tea) all lined up in the kitchen before he went to work to make sure that she ate ebeough every day. Very sweet. A bit of routine (and discipline) goes a long way with a baby, actually...!

onepieceofcremeegg · 25/09/2011 21:46

Well done AuntieM, that's the spirit Grin

You must iron your nipples for night feeds as well as day feeds you know! No slacking in the early hours.

nenevomito · 25/09/2011 21:52

Oh AM Grin

Only daddy-ironed sheets work.

I can guarantee that mummy-ironed sheets give the poor blighters terrible insomnia so you mustn't do it at any cost!
