3 weeks & Sleeping through the night

My baby has just started to sleep through the night. His last feed is about 8-9pm and then will sleep for 8 hours. At which point we wake him for a change and a feed. He is really sleepy when waking him, as if he would sleep much longer. Prior to his last feed his awake for quite a few hours.

Should I worry or be grateful? I know most people would love a sleepy baby, but could this be too much of a good thing?

If he's feeding well in the day and putting on weight, be grateful.

Make the most of it as it may not last, but I do know of two babies of friends who did this and did carry on with pretty good sleep patterns so maybe you just hit the jackpot :-)

if he is alert during the day and putting on weight, then enjoy it Smile

it won't last Grin

Here I am, awake and excited because last night my baby slept from 8pm to 5.30pm which is the first time she's slept all night. She had her first birthday last week, can walk and is starting to use odd words! I say be grateful Grin

5.30am obviously

Dd1 did this. As long as they are feeding well in the day and putting on weight then it is not a problem.

Mine started to sleep through from 6 weeks, not every night but often. I asked the hv at his weigh-in, should I be worried or smug? The woman next to me muttered, with a grin, 'smug'.Grin

Oh, and hv agreedGrinGrin

I wouldn't read anything into it all. Enjoy the sleep. Yes, it may be the case that your DS establishes himself as a brilliant sleeper. Conversely, it might be the case that he struggles to settle back into a routine when teething begins and you have a tough time of it.

My point is, 3 weeks is far too early to be thinking that your baby is a sleep 'type', as they are so changeable.

My DS woke frequently in first three months of life (at least twice), but always settled back to sleep very quickly which did give some indication (hope!) that he may be a decent sleeper. At 3 months he began sleeping through. At 13 months he sleeps 7 - 6.30. However, I am still not complacent as who knows what the terrible twos herald!
