Water at night - surely juice at night is not good for teeth? Use a non-leaky cup and she can do it herself?

lucykatie · 12/12/2005 09:17

its very diluted and she hardly drinks in the day, yes i am aware of teeth issue but i have made the mistake...stone me but help me first.

have been leaving beaker in her cot for her to do but she doesnt, she just lies there screaming untill someone goes to her.

might she have sore throat?

if not

really encourage to drink more in the day
only water at night
explain to her where the cup is and give it a good few nights (my ds has now cottoned on. at first he would sit up and point and cry, now just gets it himself)

if tis any consolation you are not alone (yawns)

morningpaper · 12/12/2005 09:34

Someone should market a non-spill beaker that glows in the dark and lights up when you move it, to encourage this sort of self-assistance.

If she's wide away could you stand over her and say "PICK UP THE BEAKER!" rather than help her? Would she get the message?

Water at night would be better because it's boring.

santasweetdreamer · 12/12/2005 09:43

lucy maybe try to up her feeds during the day? maybe she's just growing a bit and is extra hungry and the drinks are filling her up temporarily? or give her some cereal before bed to fill her up a bit?

lucykatie · 12/12/2005 10:22

good idea about water and maybe have to suffer untill she gets the message.

will try some cereal before bed, she does have a 6oz bottle before bed but never drinks it all, sometimes doesnt even bother having any of it. her last meal is around 4pm so maybe she is a little hungry.

will try tonight.....please hope and pray for me...i need some sleep.

santasweetdreamer · 12/12/2005 11:23

I'd give her some more food before bed and also maybe give her the last bottle a bit earlier, maybe she's too tired to be bothered with the last bottle just before bed.

good luck tonight!

jstbcs · 12/12/2005 12:21

what juice do you give her? if it is sugar free it will have aspartemene in it (or some other sweetner) which is a stimulant.

lucykatie · 12/12/2005 12:36

oh right, i give her robinsons, no added sugar!!!!

an answer to my question...maybe.

OP posts:
jstbcs · 12/12/2005 13:44

might want to read this...

aspartmane

feastofsteven · 12/12/2005 13:46

is it the juice or the attention? does she settle once you have given her the juice? I do wonder if she genuinely is thirsty, or whether the drink is just a "prop" to get her back to sleep?

jstbcs · 12/12/2005 15:24

.

falalaala · 12/12/2005 15:30

if you were having difficulty weaning her off the robinsons onto water, you could do diluted apple juice and just make it more and more diluted each night. that isn't good for teeth, but it might help make the transition.

santasweetdreamer · 13/12/2005 07:52

how did you get on last night lucy?

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 13/12/2005 15:33

OMG!! I've just read the link about aspartame. TBH, I've often wondered which was worse, aspartame or sugar. Now I know. Thanks jstbcs.

santasweetdreamer · 13/12/2005 17:49

what's the worst thing with aspartame in it?

also does those artificial sweetners for your coffee or tea have it?

mazzystar · 13/12/2005 17:50

most things that say "sugar free"
soft drinks, some yoghurts, ready meals

jstbcs · 13/12/2005 18:53

its hidden in things like crisps as well... i would say worst culprits are soft drinks.

santasweetdreamer · 13/12/2005 19:46

do you know if it's in those tiny white tablets you can click out of a dispenser like hermisetas?

jstbcs · 13/12/2005 19:48

shld say so on the back...

santasweetdreamer · 13/12/2005 19:51

I know but I've flung out the cardboard it was attatched to.....

jstbcs · 13/12/2005 20:03

google it.

lucykatie · 13/12/2005 23:09

last night was much better to be honest, never gave her the sugar free drink, i did dilute some of my orange [fresh] with water, it was very week, she still drank it. i do think she gets thirsty, as once she has had her drink she is straight back to sleep.

also this morning she did wake at 4.45am...nice...but to be honest and to get stoned by fellow mums netters... i did leave her and she fell back of to sleep untill 7am....a lie in!!!

at least its ggettign better, u see l;ink to todays Guardian about urgent ban wanted on Aspartame?
