dd is toilet trained during the day, but still nappy on for bedtime. is she needs a wee before she goes to sleep will ask to go to the toilet.
but the last couple of weeks her sleep has been awful, crying and whinging in her sleep, it has just dawned on me that it may be because she feels she needs a wee.
do you think this could be right?
and if so how i do i go about 'lifting her'

some people take their children to the toilet just when they are about to go to bed themselves (say 11pm)

they lift the child and plonk them on the toilet, they do a wee and go back to bed and asleep

i am just about to do this with my dd1 over christmas (maybe) but im not sure if it is as simple as it sounds!

my dd1 has been getting up at this time regularly (11pm) and i just tell her to go back to bed (which she does) and im pretty sure its cos she is woken by doing a wee in her nappy too

dd has just been asleep on the sofa and woken up crying and noticed she'd had wee.
so do you put them into bed with a nappy or not?

if you are going to do the getting up at 11pm routine, its no nappy

i am thinking about using the pampers bed liners (or whatever they are called) too as i dont fancy changing sheets at midnight

my dd1 takes naps on the couch too, and for a while i used to put a nappy on her, then i stopped and she did wees in her pants and woke up crying about 3 or 4 times then she stopped and now she wakes up and goes to the toilet

lilybird · 09/12/2005 15:27

mmmm.you see dd doesn't wake up and says she needs a wee, she wakes up then does a wee and then says she needs the toilet!!

i thought bout the bed mats, going to asda later will have a look.

yes my dd did that for a while, but not for long, maybe a couple of weeks?

then gradually she would do a wee, stop after a little drip and run to the toilet, and now she wakes up dry and goes to the toilet

(this is during naps)

she still has a wet nappy in the morning, but i have a sneaky suspicion she is dry at night and does a wee in the nappy in the morning, then gets up

lilybird · 09/12/2005 15:32

well, i'm going to try it tonight.
god, what if she doesn't settle after i've lifted her!

but if it stops her screaming and wailing in the night i'll try anything.

let me know how you go on.

THATS what im worried about - a whole hour of her asking to go and play/get a drink/get a snack/watch cartoons/go back to the toilet etc while i try and get her to go back to bed, as im knackered and thats why i was going to bed in the first place!

i suppose its like everything else - try it and see and perservere

hope you get on ok - ill be waiting to hear how you get on!

hey, nailpolish, how did it go last night, were you brave?
dd was not bad last night, well didn't have to strip the bed, lifted her at 10, but didn't do much then again after she had a drink at 5.30am, but she woke herself up at 7.20,saying she needed a wee.
different story tonight, dh put her to bed, she hadn't really done a big wee before going to sleep, just come up to check on her and she's soaking wet! so got her & bed changed (she didn't wake, thank god) so not going to lift tonight.

Just found this...

DD goes to bed at 7.30, but then refuses to sleep til about 9... in that time she normally wees in her nappy, but the last couple of nights she's been taking the nappy off and asking for the toilet.

She's been waking in the night too... starting to wonder if we have the same things happening!!!!

Not sure I'm brave enough to experiment though... last time she went without a nappy (forgot ), she wet before I got up there to check on her...

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 14/12/2005 11:23

My ds3 is the same as yours - dry during the day but wearing a nappy at night. he never wets at night but we don't feel confident enough to leave the nappy off as he is still in a cot so not really able to go to the loo alone if he needed to.

Anyway, he usually wees last thing before going to bed, but once recently he claimed not to be able to and then wet his nappy in the early morning and yes he woke up and seemed quite distressed about it, as though he had wet his pants. So, yes, if your child does not regularly wee before going to bed, she might be waking up because she needs to.

Does she have a nightlight? Have you thought about leaving a potty in the bedroom? How old is she? We lifted DS briefly and sat him on the potty and he barely woke up.
