From Grobag to duvet

When do you switch from a Grobag to a duvet? DD is 16 months (but very small and will probably fit her 6-18 Grobag for another year yet!). We have a 1 tog and a 2.5 tog. In the 1 tog one I think she is cold in the middle of the night. In the 2.5 tog one I think she is too hot in the morning. So a duvet that she could kick off seems a good idea - but how long does it take them to learn to cover themselves up again? And are there other things I haven't thought of (not worried about cot climbing - she's too short, hee-hee).

Also I'm a bit confused about buying cot duvets - they all seem to be fancy patterns, and surely I want a white one and a couple of covers? Where can I get a really cheap one (can't get to Ikea!).

Thanks!

We switched when DS was 2 as he refused to get into a grobag one night so I just threw the quilt on and left. I can't remember him having a problem pulling it back over himself.

We got ours from here but I think that SIL got hers from Argos. Mum made my covers, but I am sure that I have seen them for sale at Mothercare and other places.

We are switching in the next month or two as Dd is getting her first toddler bed (so coming out of cot). I am going to see how it goes but she is getting brand new bedding for Christmas of grandparents for her new bed. I think the Grobag willbe a pain in a bed if she tries to get out. By the way she is 18 months.

I never used a grobag with mine, just blankets and started them both with duvets at around 10 months. I put them in pj's and socks in the winter and don't really worry about the duvet getting kicked off. Ds stopped kicking his off around 2.5. I think john lews has nice plain ones. Or try searching online.

Thanks! Might see if theres a secondhand one on Ebay - then if it doesn't work out we can just go back to Grobags...

DS is 2.8 but kicks his duvet off at night and can't seem to pull it back on and cries. V. frustrating. He has been getting better recently but otherwise might revert to sleeping bag. He no longer tries to get up in night since we resorted to a light with a timer.

Interested in this light with a timer business, Bozza. What is it and how old does the kid have to be to understand? Mine is just 2, in her own bed and out of grobag. I have to go in in the night and pull the duvet over her as I don't think she knows how to do it herself. But this is not a problem as am up lots in the night with newborn one.....

With regards to learning to handle a duvet well enough to pull it back on in the night, we spend many happy hours playing a hiding game where DS has to hide under duvet when 'monster' DH comes.
This actually sounds a little weird when written down but you know what Imean, the old hide and seek routine has taught himto be at one with his duvet and he never needs us to help him get in back on in the night.

Some of the children's catalogues advertise a product that helps to keep duvets on at night. It's basically 2 clips with an elasticated strap bewteen them, that goes under the matress. Obviously it can't hold the whole duvet in place, but it stops it being kicked off or slipping off completely. Try Great Little Trading Company or Perfectly Happy People. We have the same problem and are just about to buy one!
