3 month old suddenly started sleeping like a newborn again- help!

We've had DS in a bedtime routine from 6 weeks, and from about 7-8 weeks I've really felt it has improved his sleep, he knows when it's time for bed, and his sleep periods have been increasing to the point where he was sleeping for 6 hours, waking for a feed, then going down for either a 3-3 and a half hour sleep, or two 2-hour ones.

The last couple of weeks, however, have been an absolute nightmare. He's sleeping less and less, to the point where I'm lucky if he goes down for a three-hour stretch, and he's then up every hour through the night. He's wide awake, and takes ages to rock to sleep. If I feed him to sleep, he goes off quite quickly, but then jerks awake as soon as I lay him down. The only two decent nights sleep we've had have been when I put him in his pram, but I obviously don't want to do that every night- as much as anything else, he completely fills the thing, and can't straighten out his legs in it!

I feel like we're back to the way he used to sleep as a newborn, except that when he was tiny, he slept a lot in the day, and now he won't even do that either! He'll have two naps of about 30-40 mins, and a third which is sometimes a bit longer, up to an hour or so.

I read that at his age, he should be sleeping for about 12-15 hours a day. I reckon that at the minute, he gets about 9 hours on a good day. He's knackered, I'm knackered- help!

Oh, I should say, he's breast fed. He's also woken up quite rosy-cheeked this morning. He's been dribbly and hand-chewy for a couple of weeks now, but I didn't think it was teething as he didn't have any of the other 'symptoms.' Combined with the rosy cheeks, do you think this could be teething, and could that be causing his sleep problems?

possibly a growth spurt?

I think there are several sleep patterns change as a result. Probably you will notice with each one that he starts doing new stuff.

the wonder weeks

No advice OP, but sympathy; my DS2 did exactly the same. It lasted months I'm afraid, although it could only be weeks for you. And lately he has started waking more frequently again (almost 10 months) and we've just started sleep training, which is going well. But until now I've just gone with whatever has happened, just co-slept and bf on demand.

I think I may have worked out what the problem is... spotted two little tooth buds poking up from his gums at lunchtime!
