Anyone know about sleep apnea in children?

I've been looking into possible cause for some behaviour problems DD has had recently. Initially I ruled out poor sleep as a cause but came across some info on sleep apnea and I think she might have some of the signs.

Snores very loudly, most of the night and as soon as she is asleep.
The snoring is often interupted by a coughing/choking noise but as this doesn't usually bother her and she goes straight back to sleep.
Never complains about going to bed(6.30 ish but sometimes earlier), is asleep within minutes and quite often now has to be woken in mornings (7.30 latest)

Does anyone have any experience with this and how easy was it to get your DC checked. Also what kind of things will help if that is the problem?

During an operation for gommits my twin neices were found to have sleep apnea. They too snored very loudly. I cant remember all the details but they both had their tonsils and adanoids taken out and are now free from the apnea.

I do know that the condition is serious so needs to be checked out, they were both in ITU to keep a close eye on them while they came round from the op. They have been fantastically well ever since.

Def get it checked out by doctor - sounds very much like sleep apnoea to me. I don't think snoring is considered normal in young children.
