My daughter is just 7 mths old and over the last few weeks has started to wake about 4am and starts taking to herself. I've tried several approaches..leaving her, which about after an hour she gets very upset..going in and standing with her...patting her...cuddling her..all to no avail...she is generally a very good baby and can get herself to sleep, she also has a dummy which she can find herself...I thought it might be teething but as it's the same time every night I'm a bit baffled...I would be grateful of any info and advice

Cold?

I thought that also and bought her a new sleepbag, although have adjusted our heating to come on in the early hours tonight!

What's she getting by way of solids? Possible she might be hungry? Maybe needs a bit of supper or an extra bedtime feed. Does she get a dreamfeed when you go to bed?

harakis · 15/11/2005 14:34

She has milk in the day and 9oz before she goes to bed at 7pm, breakfast lunch and dinner...also in this last week I've started giving her more food as my health visitor thought I wasn't giving her enough food, even though her weight is fine

Try giving her something fairly substantial for her dinner - porridge and banana, perhaps. Porridge is very good for keeping hunger-pangs at bay. Does hse get a dreamfeed? IIRC we dropped ds and dd's dreamfeeds at about 7 or 8m, feeling that we ahd probably kept them going longer than necessary, but hadn't wanted to risk early waking!

By porridge I mean oats, not rice or wheat.

harakis · 15/11/2005 14:44

No she doesn't have a dreamfeed and hasn't had for a while. Will try something more substantial in the evening, banana porridge sounds good...
Tipex - how did you get DS back to sleep, as I'm a bit worried about getting her into a bad routine of cuddling or standing in the room...have been told patting's very good!

I had a lot of difficulty getting dd into a good sleep habit. Spent hours patting her back. Once she was able to sleep through the night and we dropped the nighttime feeds I never picked her up during the night, just patted. It was worth the effort (and the backache) becuase she has been a champion sleeper at night since aobut 10m, and for daytime naps too since about 14m.
