Hi,im not sure what age you should change lo in to a bed. My dd is 15months, iv heard other mums do it around this age but my lo moves arouns SOOOO much in her cotbed, i get to her and shes in all sorts of positions!!!! Any ideas??? im guessing loads of pillows by the side of the bed lol, also, has anyone used on of those side panels to keep baby in?? Are they any good??

When she either doesn't fit, is repeatedly climbing out despite being told not to, or is potty trained at night.

any earlier is pointlessly hard work imho

My ds, 2.6 is just about to go into a bed.

Leave as long as possible. Unless you are having disturbed nights or she can climb out and there are safety issues, I would wait as they have more incentive to get up and can be more difficult to settle. Mine were both over 2 and had no trouble.

DD moved into a single sized bed from a cot at 2 years old. The bed is pushed up against the wall on one of the sides and the other side is protected by the Tomy bedguard . Never had a problem with it. It comes in blue too

I'd wait as lond as possible.
If she is happy, don't do it!!

DD1 was 22 months when we di d it, didn't use any rail as we felt that was something else to change in the future. we did put a large quilt beside her bed in case she fell out, but she didn't fall until months later.

DD was 18 months. she never got out, never fell out.

Really depends on your lo. My ds moved into a bed at 12mths but mainly due to trying to vault over side of cot. Moving into the bed was probably the best thing we did as he actually started to sleep better.

Nemo1977 · 13/11/2005 11:09

we also used the tomy bedguard for 2mths until i changed his bed as it wouldnt fit on the new one.

If she sleeps in cot OK then leave her there as long as poss.

SoupDragon · 13/11/2005 12:01

Unless they're showing signs of trying to get out of the cot etc, leave them there! I only evicted DS1 from the cot at around 2y 8m because I needed it for DS2 (he had to make do with the travel cot for a few months!). I think we moved DS2 out at a similar age.

Both DSs went into midheight loft beds which I actually found safer than an ordinary bed because they have rails all the way round - on holiday in ordinary beds, both kept falling out! DS2 sleeps everywhichway possible in his, he's often head down the foot end or sideways.

DD has just made the move. She's 2.5. She started asking for a bed so we took the rails off her cotbed. One side is pushed against the wall, and she does have a headboard and footboard. She hasn't climbed out or anything.
