Hi

As advised by the HV I put dd to bed at 7pm/7.30pm after bath and bottle, she is happy to go down most nights and we have an evening which is lovely, she sleeps until about2pm and then wants a feed and then sleeps til 6/7am, although we do have days when she wakles at 1,4,5,6,7 - think she is just not getting enough during the day those days.

This was lovely to begin with as I got an evening with dh and a few hours sleep before a night feed but recently I have started thinking and realsie she will not drop the night feed until she is weaned at least, another 4-5months possibly. The thought of getting up at 2/3am every night until then is a bit daunting. I know others probably have it worse but I am dreading it.

I have tried a dream feed at 10pm, one night she took it and drunk about 1.5 to 2 ounces then had rest at 3.45am next night woke as i WAS TRYING TOP GET HER TO ATKE IT and took 1.5 ounces, still went back to sleep okay and woke at 3am.

Should I continue with a feed at 10pm either awake or deamfeed in the hope she will begin to take more and sleep the night or should I give up and go to bed early and put up with the night feed until weaned?

I am beginning to wonder if 7pm is too early a bedtime for her, thats what my mum says but she seems happy to go down and sleep/nap til morning. Dh says this is good habit for when she is older as we will not wnat a 2 year old wanting to stay up late, true I know.

I would welcome any advice about dreamfeeding, whether anyone managed to get baby to take more after some time or maybe I should wait until later to do the dream feed. It's just that staying awake til 10 or 11 and then getting up in the night is kind of knackering me.

i know some people can establish routines early but but when ds was 9 wks he kind of led the way. at that point he wasnt going to bed till quite late and we just dealt with each day. it took us a while longer to get a good routine, maybe about 3/4 months. we may have just been disorganised to some people but it worked for us!

We dreamfeed at 10:30pm and he then goes through til about 5:30am for a quick feed and back to sleep although he looks like kicking this one too...

I rouse him a little at 10:30 to make sure he takes at least 4ozs...feeding them any later is supposed to interupt their deep sleep I believe and 10:30 is about what time we get ready for bed so its easy for us...

tedebear

does your son take a whole feed for his dreamfeed? If so did he work up to this or take it straight away? I am hoping that with some perseverence she will take more and wake later, 5.30 would be great as opposed to 3

Last night she took 2 ounces again but slept til 7.30am she had lots of milk during the day so I guess it's swings and roundabouts

I have 5 children and never heard of 'dreamfeeding' till I came on here! Think the sleep you are getting with a 9 week old sounds good and she may drop her 2pm feed in time.

hi gingernut lover - no he doesn't take a whole feed at dreamfeed time... usually 3-4 ounces and a usual bottle in the day is 5-6 ounces... its just a top up really to get him into deep sleep through the night...

thanks everyone, I think I will keep on going with the df and see what happens, take each day as it comes and be grateful for the sleep we ARE getting
