My son Ryan is 8 months now, he sleep from 9pm. But he wake up around 4 or 5am every morning. (been like this for weeks now) I feed him then he goes down till 7 or 8am.

Last night, he wake up at 1am and then again 2am. Then at 6am. Ryan is teething as he has got rose cheeks etc.I am a single mum. Should i stop giving him the milk at 4 or 5am? Let him cried it out. Controlled cried?

I did the CC to wean Ryan off his dummy, as he was waking up at every hour.

I don't know what to do, as i am very tired indeed. Any advice please to break the 4am or 5am? To get Ryan sleep through till 7am. I heard these women, their babies sleep from 7pm to 7am the next morning, huh i wish!!

Hi Natalie,

sorry your having such a hard time.

Does Ryan eat plenty during the day? I have found it quite common for them to wake up in the night to feed if their not getting enough during the day, however if he is getting enough you may consider slowly giving him less milk at night until its just a sip of water and eventually just cut it out entirely.

Does he sleep much during the day? More than 2.5/3 hrs during the day may be a little excessive that could be why he doesnt go down until 9pm and again could be another reason why he wakes up early. If he hardly sleeps during the day he could well be overtired and again this could keep him up later and perhaps not induce a long and sound sleep.

My dd is nearing 8 months too so I fully understand where your coming from! I hope some of that is useful!!

Ryan sleep a hour or more in the morning and in the afternoon .

Ryan does he 3 solids a day, sometime he doesn't eat all his lunch or dinner!

Should i put Ryan down earlier not at 9pm? I am worry that he might wake eary around 2am, that why i keep ryan awake till 8.30pm (feed him with milk).

thanks for your message Tam

I am worrie dthat by you keeping him up he may become overtired and that could be instrumental in him not sleeping well. Is he grizzly and tired before 9pm?

If he can try to have at least 2.5 hours sleep through the day, splitting it between morning and afternoon is fine. Do you regulate he sleeps? Not like clockwork but does he generally sleep at a certain time? He may need a general routine, not something that confines you just a rough outline of his day, children do benefit from that.

Do you give him snacks between meals? If he doesnt eat all of his meals perhaps omit the snacks, just give water and a rice-cracker perhaps? Its fairly important that he does eat enough during the day to prevent him waking at night.

By all means dont copy us because all children are different but here's an outline of our day..

7am up and breakfast
9am milk and sleep (30mins to 1 hour)
12:30 lunch
1pm milk and sleep (2 hours)
3pm up and sip of water, sometimes a biscuit or cracker too)
5pm tea
6:30 bath
7pm milk and bedtime, with story and soft music

If i am busy or out or whatever it sometimes changes the timing but she will sleep for the same amount of time.

Good Luck!!

Natuk, is he happily awake until 9pm? Sounds very late. My 8 month old is in bed by 6:30pm with her last nap having been until about 3:15. I know DD could never last much later than 7. Try and put him down earlier if he is looking tired. I know you are worried he will wake up but you may be surprised. He could be going to bed overtired at the moment which may be effecting the quality of his night sleep.

i remember mine went thru a phase like that for about 5 weeks adn i was knackered till i introduced a 4th bowl of solids

give him plenty of fruit and biscuits throughout the day as it fulfills him - HTH!

Hi everyone, thanks for your lovely messages. Ryan has been going to bed between 8pm-8.30pm for now.

I have also tried the CC on Ryan for not giving him a feed at 4/5am, as he is getting enough solids in the day.

I have stop doing the CC on Ryan because he deffo teething at the moment. He woke up 3am and then again 5am this morning, screaming his head off! I can see two top teeths cutting through the gum. Ryan also got two teeths at the bottom.

Perhaps it was teeths waking him up at the night last month or two. How long will it last? He did sleep through on Monday night from 8pm to 6.20am.

Any advice please many thanks
