DD is five months and is waking religiously between three and four but just chatting and singing. If I go in straight away I can feed her back to sleep pretty quickly, usually till 7, but she never clamours for food.

So, here's the plan: try and rock/cuddle/give water to her tonight to get her back to sleep and see how long she goes for. Maybe have to do this a couple more times in the night. Hopefully work out if she is genuinely hungry and if not try sone gentle sleep training.

I know this might sound a bit pathetic and I know there are much worse sleepers out there but I'm tired and I can't work out if I'm doing the right thing or not. I'm still such a newbie and my confidence isn't quite there yet.

it's really up to you.

i'm sure she can manage without a feed. However plenty of babies still feed in the night at this age, and just one waking is pretty good going at 5mo.

both my dds dropped night feeds at 6mo, although dd2 continues to wake even though she doesn't want milk. hunger isn't always at the root of night waking, so dropping the feeds may not be a panacea.

If it were me I'd only be going in to her when your sure she wants you and then I'd feed her. Untill solids are properly established its perfectly possible that she's hungry. And even if its not food she needs its the fastest way to get you both back sleeping in your beds!
I would wait untill 8-9mths before attempting any sleep training.
