Bedtime routine for 1 year old?

My LO is 12mo and needs a proper bedtime routine to help her wind down. I admit to having been slack and not instituted one before, but baths make her excited so we have those in the morning and as she (touch wood) generally sleeps through, we haven't felt the need for a set routine.

Any suggestions please? Obviously a story, but she's a hyper little thing and one story is not going to make a restful baby if she's wanting to play.

I have done a search but most routines seem to involve baths...

Is she hyper all day or get more hyper towards bedtime? It sounds like she needs a bit of calm activity in the afternoon so she's not so wound up come bedtime.

Our routine (yep you guessed it) starts with a bath. Then we'll go to his room, with a low light on and curtains drawn, get dressed etc. If he's had an early bath eg I've been at work and asked his nanny to do it, I'll sit with DS and he'll potter about with the odd toy or book. I'll tell him it's nearly bedtime. Then we read a story, have some milk, maybe sing a song then lights out. I'll cuddle, put him down and he'll babble himself to sleep (takes 10 mins). If he's a bit clingy then I'll keep my hand on him or give extra cuddles. You could do something similar - keep things calm after tea, draw the curtains etc then move to her bedroom so she knows what's coming.

Thanks, will give it a try without the bath :)

She tends to be hyper all day, and she is at nursery three days as I have to work. She isn't unpleasantly hyper and will play with her toys or whatever until she gets sleepy, we just struggle with settling her if she hasn't decided it's time to go to sleep!

I have a 1 year old & 2 1/2 year old. They enjoy looking at books, however, this also includes many trips to the bookcase which gets them a bit too giddy wanting to play with other toys. At night after bath (or wash & pj's) they sit on mine & Daddy's knee with favourite tv show (mickey mouse) for 15 mins. They love the show and don't move when its on which really calms them down for bed.

I don't think it needs to be a story - its whatever works for you & your family.
