DD is 6+month old, she goes to sleep on her own but wakes in the night for no apparent reason. She doesn't cry just babbles to herself. This can go on for at least 2 hours. She has blackout curtains and is in a sleeping bag. It is now creating problems as I also have a DS who is 2yrs and he is waking up now. I have tried bringing her into bed but she thinks it's playtime. I don't want to give her a bottle as she hasn't had one in the night since 3mths old. Any suggestions on why she could be doing this?

Kanesmum, if sh's only babbling, then I would say it is just a phase and leave her. Definitely don't give her a bottle. Can you put her in another room to your ds as this seems to be the only problem? Is she having a developmental surge? Eg about to crawl or pull herself up or roll over? This sometimes seems to excite babies.

My 5 month old started doing this on and off for about the last two weeks as well - he babbles for about half an hour and then starts crying. I go in and then he stops and smiles at me I leave he cries again - its almost like he has had too much coffee. This was driving me mad so invested in Gina Fords latest book on sleep (the woman must have a small caribean island funded just by me. Anyway contained within it was a small paragraph about foods that can cause your baby to be wakeful: carrots, sweet potatoes citrus fruits and tomatoes - if they are given in large quantities. I had made a huge batch of sweet potatoe and carrot a couple of weeks ago and he loved it. Have switched to other veggies for last couple of days and it does seem - fingers crossed - to have made a big difference. Have never heard of this before. The rest of the book is a bit rubbish BTW as just rehash of her weaning and CLB. However worth it for this nugget.

Aloha, dd is in her own room. She is quite an active baby, never silent. Maybe she is going through a developement surge. Hope so!
Lamin, have got the GF book but haven't looked at it this time, will read up on the food issues related to sleep. Thx
