I don't - but it feels mighty chilly in their rooms when I go in morning.... they seem warm enough in their beds during the night - it's just the mornings when they wake up

put it on before they get up
or set it on low by thermostt

nailpolish · 09/11/2005 15:32

yes i do because they kick the covers off and i worry about cold hands

but i leave the little 'slits' at the top of the windows open for a little fresh air

DissLocated · 09/11/2005 15:34

Not the central heating but a small electric radiator, her room has 3 external walls and gets quite chilly.

bagpussmice · 09/11/2005 15:34

think I might put it on low tonight - it feels really cold today, but then I'm coming down with a cold.... looks like a cold night ahead.

No I dont like the heating on at night as it makes us all feel really groggy in the mornings and we are all nice nad warm in our beds anyway. If we get a really cold spell I set the heating to come on 15 mins before I get up to warm the house a bit.

Never had it on as kids either and mumused to say the cold wakes you up nicely hhmmmmm then she wondered why she had problems getting us out of bed

bagpussmice · 09/11/2005 15:35

i find that if they have the rads on they cough more in the night and the central heating isn't good for them either I don't think.

in our last house we didnt have radiators in the upstairs at all and we had burst pipes every winter!

so i like to have it on low,

Cha · 09/11/2005 15:37

No - do not. I think it dries the air (and is too expensive!) and as long as the covers are warm enough, they will survive. If they kick the covers off, they are too hot. If they get cold again, they pull them up (or yell for me to do it ).
But if this winter is as cold as they say it is going to be...well, maybe I will rethink. The water tank is in their room...

Mum2OneAndBump · 09/11/2005 15:39

No i dont never have never will, i set the timer so it comes on 30 mins before we get up.

northerner · 09/11/2005 15:39

Our heating goes off at 9pm ish and comes on again at 7am. I Hate getting out of bed to a cold house. But it's not on through the night no.

ThomCat · 09/11/2005 15:42

Not during the night. it;s set to come on an hour before we get home and go off at night, and come on again in the morning. Mind you the time Lottie is getting up these days I might set it to come on anpther hour early.

Bugsy2 · 09/11/2005 16:16

Not all night as the house would be boiling, but I set the heating to come on at about 5am for 2 hours.
Unless it is bitterly cold, I leave the window in the children's room very slightly ajar to ensure plenty of fresh air.

lapsedrunner · 09/11/2005 18:14

No.

winnie · 09/11/2005 18:23

no

Milge · 09/11/2005 18:25

no have it on from 6 until 8 in the evening, and then 6 until 8 in the morning.

Nightynight · 09/11/2005 18:29

yes, thermostat controlled - aim to keep their rooms at a steady 17-20 degrees.

mugface · 09/11/2005 18:35

so far i have only switched on the radiator in the kitchen and we have the fire on in the living room at night. But, upstairs, at the moment no heating at all.

Enid · 09/11/2005 18:37

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 09/11/2005 18:37

HuggyBear · 09/11/2005 18:38

no - we have no heating at all yet its bloody freezing!!

Mercy · 09/11/2005 19:07

Ooooh Enid - I'd love a fireplace in the sitting room. My romantic dream.
Heating on for bath time and early morning so far oh and briefly around 4.30/5.00.
Am dreading this winter's fuel bill- again

Nightynight · 09/11/2005 19:08

he he
you stingy lot
Im in a minority of one!

but ours is not central heating, it is electric heaters, supplemented by the chimney of the woodstove in the sitting room, which acts as a giant ceramic storage heater through the centre of the house.

twirlaround · 09/11/2005 19:09

no heating in dds bedroom at all unless it is really cold - in which case it is on all night - storage heaters

katierocket · 09/11/2005 19:10

No.
In my day (pulls up chair and gets out pipe and slippers) there used to be ice on the inside of our bedroom windows when we woke up in teh winter.

Enid · 09/11/2005 19:11

we have open fire in the sitting room

and a woodburner in the other room (not sure what its going to be yet)

lush. better than valium for relaxing you. chuck a glass of red wine in the mix and you're gone...
