7 mo using her new found rolling skills in the cot making bedtime a nightmare!

Dd2 is 7 mo and a crap sleeper at the best of times. She usually feeds to sleep but lately that has become more difficult as she just wants to roll around. I've tried sticking her in the cot but she just rolls around and cries out of tiredness/frustration.

Any tips or just ride it out.

My DS (also 7mo) went through a phase of doing this recently. He seemed to figure out quite quickly that it didn't really get him anywhere good and stopped. So I guess just ride it out...

DS has just started doing this. It's just taken me 15 minutes of flipping back over to get him to nap. I keep wedging rolled towels beside him, to make it more difficult to flip!

Luckily at bedtime, he is still in a crib in our room, and it's too small for him to turn around in!

Hopefully once they can crawl (DS is at that rocking stage) the need to flip may cease - or they may just conk out on their fronts.......

DD (10 mo) has just started to pull herself up on the bars of the cot so a similar problem here, bedtime has gone from being 10 minutes of tired moaning (her) and shushing (me) to 45 minutes of hyperactivity with me trying to lie her down at regular intervals.

Last night I'd had enough so left her to it (she wasn't upset, just busy - but clearly tired), after 10 minutes or so she started to cry so I went back up, laid her down and did the usual shushing/singing thing and she fell asleep within a few minutes. Might have been a one-off but I'm going to try it again tonight, otherwise it's just frustrating watching her.

I realise it might be difficult to do this with your DD if she's crying but perhaps just try leaving the room for a few minutes? maybe it's just something they need to get out of their system before they go to sleep. Presumably she will get bored at some point but I know that's not much consolation at the moment - just hope it passes quickly Smile!

Watching with interest as i posted about a similar problem with DS the other day. He's 6.5 months and everytime he stirs slightly he rolls over and starts crawling around his cot. The past few nights he's ended up horizontal in there. It's killing me as even if i take him to bed with me he just crawls round the bed. I got about 4 hours sleep last night :(

Ah ha! - DS after rolling round the cot for his nap with me periodically turning him over until he fell asleep (20 minutes), has just rolled over at 45 minute mark and gone back to sleep.

This may be a break through - if I am confident he will sleep on his front - will just leave him to get on with it!!

Have same problem at moment bumper. Against all the advice I use rolled up towels to wedge him on his side. He won't sleep on his back. We have a breathing monitor which gives me a (probably false) sense of security.

well ignore my post above, tried leaving her to it for a bit last night and again tonight and didn't work at all, she just ended up in floods of tears for 45 minutes. On balance I think I prefer just staying with her and waiting for her to get bored.

I thought bedtime was the only sleep related thing we had sorted. Grr.

DS is doing this now!! AARGH. And he is making all these new noises. He's in his cot going "Gla! Brrr. Brrrrrrrrrr. GLAAAAA!" and crawling up to investigate the other end.

QueenOfFeckingEverything · 12/05/2011 19:59

Yeah my 9mo DS does it too (same vocabulary as yours, Countess Bapula Grin)

In-bloody-furiating.

Bumperlicioso · 12/05/2011 22:11

Glad it's not just DD. I would wedge her but I'm not sure if it would piss her off more. She seems to like sleeping on her side, and then I think she wakes up when she rolls onto her back.

I miss the Amby hammock, but I don't think she'd go back in it :(
