Travel Cot with Bassinet function or Moses basket for bedroom

HELP!!

Im so confused, I dont know which way to turn.

Was suggested that a travel cot with bassinet function may be a better option for our room rather than a moses basket as we'd get more use out of it once baby is too big for a moses basket.

The one I've found is a travel cot/play pen/bassinet all in one and suitable for continuous sleep.

Are there any particular reasons why a moses basket is better than bassinet?

I think it's to do with air flow. We used the carrycot bit of the pushchair which was the same size as a moses basket but dd grew out of it really fast so I was glad I didn't buy a seperate basket. With this pg we were going to push the boat out and treat me to a rocking crib as they're bigger but that went out the window as I'm having twins. With dd1 we ended up with her full sized cot in our room from about 10 weeks old - and dd wasn't a huge baby - was in 3-6month clothes until 8.5 months.

Moneywise a travel cot is far better value. You will get use out of it until the baby is a toddler, depending on how active and "climby" they are! Also, I think that moses baskets on stands are a bit wobble and too easy to knock over (a big consideration for us with 5 older kids in the house!) so in your position I would go for the travel cot. You can also use it as a playpen too.

We have a crib but it was bought for us otherwise I wouldnt have bothered as it cost more than a decent "from birth" travel cot :)

wobbly even

Our moses basket also only lasted until about 9 weeks and DD was only 6lb11oz so far from a huge baby. I wouldn't recommend unless you want to use it to be near you for day time sleep. If you're going with the recommended 6 months in your room and have space, put the cot up in your room from the start and save yourself the money.

TBH you can get a travel cot for what a lot of moses baskets plus stand cost. I'd go for the travel cot every time, just get a proper matress for it.

Aren't moses baskets called bassinets in America? Confused

We must have had a massive moses basket, as DD still fitted in hers comfortably at 6 months and she was no tiddler. We didn't use it very often then, only for occasional naps. It was from babies r us.

If I was choosing again though, I'd probably go for the travel cot/bassinet bit in our room to start with so we could take it down (and with us) after she'd outgrown it. We haven't used the moses basket regularly for about 9 months and it's still taking up space in our room, while we save it for the 'next' baby.

Hello. We're going to move this thread to the Sleep topic now - at the OP's request.

Thanks Helen.

Ive been talking to DP this morning and my friend is giving me her moses basket and brand new matress for £10. Im then going to get a travel cot with bassinet for downstairs so I have somewhere secure (not going to topple over) downstairs when DSD is here and the dog is about. Plus the travel cot can be used as a play pen when a bit bigger if I need somewhere safe to pop baby.

Thanks for your advice, if anyone has any other suggestions/opinions please feel free to let me know
