Is sleeping in his sling bad for my 3wo's back?!

When he gets overtired, the only place my little 3 week old boy will drop off is in his sling (fabric type affair, legs pointing down, body as upright as it goes!). Brilliant for me and for him, I get things done, he sleeps for hours at a time and wakes up chirpy. At night he is flat in his bedside crib and in the afternoon he often chills out in the pram. BUT my mother is convinced I am distorting his posture by letting him sleep in the sling like this - should I be concerned or is she worrying about nothing?!

i don't think it will do him any harm, lots of small babies sleep upright. if he wakes up happy all is good! my little one was in a fabric sling from 1-2 weeks, no harm done!

Thanks, sassy, that's reassuring - asked the midwife yesterday and she said it was fine too - as she pointed out, in countries like Africa babies spend all day in slings and have no problems as a result! Smile

Depends what type of sling. A wrap style sling like this would be fine as the weight is supported on his bum not his spine (their legs should be like frog legs, knees above bum) and his back is curved. If it is a Baby Bjorn type one like this then that is not so good. They're not in the best position.
