Hi everyone.

I have just joined and am desperate for some advice!

I have a six month old beautiful little boy (my first!) He has been the best baby any first time mum could possibly ask for. He has slept through the night since he was three weeks old and tells you when hungry, tired, needs a change or just a cuddle!

But all of a sudden two weeks ago he has started to wake. He has three good meals a day and four 8oz bottle feeds. He usually goes to bed about 8p, but is waking at 11, 2 and 4am hungry! (we think!) We have upped his feeds during the day and he has veg and rice and a pudding of fruit for lunch and dinner as well as his breckfast. At night his bum is dry and he is not to hot or cold. I just don't seem to be able to establish any kind of regular good sleeping pattern again.

It is drving DH and I mad! I have just had an op' on my knee and am trying to recover but have to go back to work soon and the lack of sleep is begining to make me and DH very short tempered!

We think he is teething we have tried calpol, ashton and parsons powders, calgel, bongella just about everything! Does anyone have any tricks up their sleeves they would be willing to share! We are getting desperate!

Thank you in advance

LuciB x

its just something they do I'm afraid!
Try not to feed him during the night or not at all wakings. just lay him down agian and say goodnight and then leave him. might take a few goes but he will soon realise there is nothing to wake up for!

Sure he isnt cold?
( mu syandard replY)

it has got a lto colder recently

tedebear · 07/11/2005 15:06

Thats def. hunger (as he is waking every 3 hours nearly), upping the feeds will take a few days to take effect, he needs more calories in the day to get through the night I'd say...and then like Aunty Mandy says you need to go in and kindly put him back to sleep when he wakes and tell him its ok but its sleep time...

xx good luck!!

Can you use Medised yet? Not sure of the age restrictions on that but it's for colds etc and has a mild sedative in it.

LuciB · 07/11/2005 22:26

Medised - WHat's that and how does it work?

This story has been told by myself and many others here.

" i had the perfect angel sleeping through from day 1 and now 6mths its all changed"

Your little boy is growing up and realising that hey, i don't wanna be here on my own, hey i have things to do! teeth to grow! food to eat! and toys to play with. This cot is borring!

You have two choices.
Go the tough route and leave him to cry after quick comfort.

Or be a wimp like me an let him come and snuggle in your bed and i used to bf so let dd have a feed.

Whatever your choice, they all grow up one day and decide that a good nights sleep is worth having.

Good luck!

LuciB - you get medised over the counter from any chemist. It's just like calpol etc used for colds mainly though and to aid sleep when all snotty etc. It's only a VERY mild sedative, just helps them get off to sleep. DS2 had it when teething but can't remember what age it's ok from. It helped a little.

Medised can be given from 3 months and as pfer said, can be bought over the counter. Tried it with DS last night, we are having the same prolem, waking through the night, slept through last night, but woke at 5:30, will continue to give it for a few more nights and see how it goes.
