Long morning nap - to cut down or not?

Can't believe I'm actually asking this as has have been having major issues with DD's sleeping since birth (she's now almost 8 months), but I'm contemplating waking her up after her morning nap and wonder if this is a good thing. Is it better for babies to have a shorter morning nap than in the afternoon?

At the moment, we're in a sort of pattern in which she'll happily sleep for up to 2 hours in the morning (until 11ish) and then resists quite a bit to go down for an afternoon nap of around about an hour (if we're lucky).

Not a problem when her big brother is at school but when he's here and at weekends we're all held hostage rather as she only really sleeps well in her cot and can't drop eaily on the move. This means we can't really do anything in the mornings until she wakes up.

I'd prefer her to sleep for a shorter time in the morning then we can do stuff together like playgroups, baby signing etc. then sleep properly in the afternoon.

Sleep at nighttime has until recently been all over the place, but slowly seems to be getting easier and she managed 10 hours last night which was brilliant.

What to do?
