6 month old rolling in his sleep

Hi,

I'm having real worries because my 6 month old DS has started to roll onto his tummy at night but he seems to have forgotten he can roll back the other way (I know he can I have video evidence haha). Last night I was checking on him every couple of hours and each time I found him on his tummy with his face smushed against the side of his cot - luckily we have one of those air wrap bumpers so he was able to breathe but I still wasn't happy about that so I've taken it off. Am I worrying about nothing? I don't know how long I'll be able to keep going in to turn him over but I think where it's been drummed into me that babies should sleep on their backs I worry about something happening to him.
Any advice or reassurance would be splendid!
Thanks
x

I think if he can roll then you're ok to leave him to sleep however he is comfy(especially now you've taken the bumper off) - otherwise you're going to spend forever rolling him back onto his back.

FSID info here

As I understand it, by all means pop him back onto his back when he wakes or when settling him down, but after 6m you don't need to worry to much about him rolling himself over when asleep.

Thanks ladies, I think he spent most of last night on his tummy, I turned him over a couple of times but he was absolutely fine this morning. I also worry about him because he has a dodgy chest so is very wheezy. I would have thought being on his back would make it easier for him to breathe but who knows?

Agree completely with notmyownname
Roll him back if you happen to see him, but don't start obsessively checking or worrying. From 6 months onwards the risks of cot death decrease a lot. My DD was exactly the same around that age.

Once he can roll you can leave him - my ds slept so much better once he could roll onto his front.

I would remove any cot bumpers or loose bedding though as that is a suffocation risk.

Yeah i've taken the bumper off even though its a breathable one and he's in a sleeping bag so not worries there though now we've taken the bumper off he's gone back to getting his legs stuck in between the bars. Can't win lol.
