Aghghghghghhh!! Overtiredness

Help!

DS (6.5 mo) was a bad napper. Then, we worked at it for a few weeks and I thought we had got somewhere. But this last week it has all gone wrong again Sad

He is taking ages to go to sleep in the daytime, be it in his pram, his cot or in the car, and then sleeping for a maximum 30 minutes and I can't persuade him to go back to sleep.

The lack of daytime naps is having a knock-on effect on night time sleep, last night for example he woke every 1-2 hours, just needing resettling. We tried calpol and feeding, but it didn't seem to make any difference to length of sleep (i.e. he still woke up 1-2 hours after the feed / calpol).

So then he wakes up in the morning and is still tired, so won't settle for his naps (it took me an hour of persuading for him to go to sleep this morning, he has just woken up 25 minutes later), so is even tireder..... and so it goes on.

He is knackered, I am knackered, DP has man flu a cold so is also knackered. Perhaps DS also has man flu?

We just need to break the cycle with a decent length sleep, but how do we do that???

Not particularly expecting a solution, I just needed to get that off my chest. Grin

Please just tell me that one day soon I might get a 4 hour stretch of sleep again?

Hey Beela,

Just wanted to send my sympathy Brew It is so difficult to break that cycle when your LO won't nap well. I'm afraid I don't have any good advice as my DS only naps for 30 minutes at a time. He is 7 mo this week and in the last fortnihgt his sleep has been all over the place. Maybe it is a development patch and so much else going like teething, weaning etc.

I just keep telling myself it can't last forever and as long as i know i am doing all i can to help him nap/sleep i try and be easy on myself. Sllep deprivation is a horrible thing.

Hope it gets better soon [csmile]

Thanks ella you are right, it can't last for ever it just sometimes feels that way [csmile]

I took him for a long walk at lunchtime and he slept for over 2 hours! He obviously needed it. I am (even more) exhausted now! But he has cheered up massively, it gives me a good excuse to finish off the easter eggs, and hopefully tonight will be better than last night now that he has caught up a bit... fingers crossed anyway.

Hope your DS's sleep settles down soon.
