I'm sticking to my guns and throwing the dummy away...!

DS (8 months) has had the same dummy for months, its gross. I've tried changing it with the same brand, different brands, sizes... nothing worked!!

Well, I've just spent an hour trying to get him to sleep without it. He cried a bit, moaned a lot. Spat out and threw the new one.

But, he fell a sleep without it! I'm so happy.
I'm preparing myself for a couple of rough days but fingers crossed that will be the end of the dummy!
Anyone else had problems getting rid of it?

Good for you. Keep it up - it won't get harder, only easier now I reckon. I ditched the dummy with DS about 2 weeks ago - right decision in our case as he's been sleeping like a top recently.

And think of my friend - her daughter became totally addicted to a particular type of dummy with a very distinctive shape that was suddenly discontinued by the manufacturers. She had several months of having to buy up remaining stocks on ebay from places as far afield as dubai, at about £15 quid per dummy!

good on you, my DS 2.3 still has his at night to sleep, only time he is allowed it, however trying to get him to sleep overnight without his "dragon" dummy is not an easy feat in fact its practically impossible, i have NO idea how im going to get it away!!

Jesus £15 dummy! Tbh, I'd probably of done the same for some piece and quiet!

Well last night after he'd had a bath and dinner, I notice his gums were bleeding. He's got 5 new teeth coming through all at once at the top. So he was quite upset but I didn't give him the old dummy. He settled with a new one in the end. Slept terribly - woke up every 2 hours - putting this down to teething! I think once his teeth are through I'll go completely cold turkey and give no dummy, don't want to just yet because its a comfort to him and his gums are so sore :(

LisamumtoJake - My brother was the same with his dummy and ended up having it till he was 5! In the end my mum threw them in the river and that was that! Its hard though, I have learn't my lesson with the dummy and my next dc will not be having one!!
