Help! 5 wk old unsettled day and night!

I have four children and my 5wk old DS is unsettled day and night. He'll sleep maybe 3 hours between around 11pm and 2am, then he'll be unsettled sometimes the rest of the night. So long as I hold him tight in my arm, he'll be more settled. We've swaddled him, and whilst that helps as soon as we put him down to sleep on his own, he grizzles and gets increasingly upset until he's picked up again. I'm breastfeeding fine and he's putting on weight so i know there's no problem with my milk.

He won't really have a decent stretch of sleep in the day either. I'm shattered and don't know what to do! Please help!

You don't think there's any chance he could have reflux/silent reflux?? I know there are millions of reasons for a baby being unsettled but my first thought is always reflux as I have experienced it with my dd. You could try some of the tips for this like propping up the moses basket and keeping him upright after feeds etc to see if it makes any difference.

I said it before and will say it again: try cranial osteopathy. This thing works miracles. Good luck.

Thanks both! How much is cranial osteopathy? Does it work for a number of different causes of symptoms?

The session I got was £35 I think. I think it can work for various symptoms, but sometimes it does not work. In my case it did not look like the osteo was doing anything and I thought well I getting ripped off here; but my god the difference was incredible. You can always give one a call and see what they say.

Don't bother with the cranial osteopathy. There is no evidence that it helps so you will just be wasting your time & money.

My DD (currently 4 weeks) sleeps swaddled in dh's half of our double bed so I can keep a hand by her face in the night. DH sleeps in the spare room. I've also been known to give DD an extra blanket and ignore the SIDS guidelines, because I think it helps her sleep.
