Any tips for laying newborn down to sleep?

Daughter is 3 weeks old. She normally falls asleep during or after a feed (breastfeeding). I wind her and then lay her down in her moses basket but she starts wriggling and cries out. I dont know if she's in pain with wind or just wants a cuddle.
Take now for instance, she's fast asleep on her back on my lap - I'm pretty sure if I try and move her to her moses basket she'll wke up the second I put her down.
Any suggestions?

The relative cold of the basket can wake them. MW advised me with DS to either warm the basket with a hot water bottle or (best bet) cuddle to sleep wrapped in a blanket then transfer baby and blanket to basket. Worked every time :)

She might be missing your smell too. Try putting a t-shirt you've been wearing in the cot too.

Wait until her eyes have stopped flickering and she's passed from REM to deep sleep - it usually takes around 25 minutes after they've nodded off.

I tried everything in your situation (warming the sheet, putting my t shirt in, rocking Moses basket, putting in awake, putting in asleep.....)
Nothing worked, gave up and co slept with both dc.
Many many people do manage it though so I am
Sure someone else will have a better answer.
Just wanted you to know it isn't just you.

What Knackeredmother said.

DS2 now sleeping in cot at 18 weeks, have co-slept up until now with him snuggled in crook of my arm or face squashed into my boob! Tiny babies need to be cuddled. DS2 didnt like his moses basket or pram and I always had him strapped in baby carrier. He is mush better now and is happy in cot/pushchair/wherever for quite a while now. Stick with it and enjoy all the snuggles.

Try swaddling her before she drops off - with a thin sheet or muslin in this hot weather. She'll still feeled wrapped up when you put her down, so hopefully she won't notice! used to work with my DS2, who was a nightmare before I discovered the swaddling.

I've been taking the mattress out of her basket and putting it next to my pillows so I'm leaning against it while I feed her (so making it warm & smell like me) - seems to be working so far, but I need to remember how to swaddle too, as that worked like a dream with DD1!
