Has anyone's baby gone through a phase of waking because of some new skill?

DD's nearly 7 months and for the last week has been waking every single night, the record was for 7 hours one night

She's just started up again now, and she's gone from being sound asleep to being wide awake and chuntering and seemingly perfectly happy, just bumping around in the cot. If I'm not there she cries. I've had no sleep for a week and all I can think of is it might be her learning to crawl or something.

I need some people to come along and tell me this happened to them and it got better really quickly. Please!

Fuck's sake she's started already, rambling around the cot and singing if I'm there with her, now I've come away it'll doubtless progress to shrieking within 5 minutes. It was after 5am when she finally conked out last night, 4.15am the night before.

Please anyone someone tell it'll bloody pass :(

yup, used to drive me round the bend. With my ds it was crawling and then standing. It would wake up the tinnest amount and would start crawling straight away so would wake up more. As he was so tried it would turn into a sort of head down rocking.

Then when he was learning to stand up, as soon as he started to wake up before he had even opened his eyes he would pull himself up and then becasue he was tried fall over and bang his head. Then scream. It was like all he could think about was the new skill he was desperate to conqure.

It's better at the moment but I fear it will be walking soon.

Well i'm still trying to settle her now and I put her down at half past 6. Serves me right for having an easier night last night - she was awake for less than 2 hours!

DD is 6m now. She has just figured out that she can growl, shriek and snort. Also that if she tries really hard, she can reach those toys at the end of her cot. And what about sticking her arm through the bars.... mmm... that works...can't get it out now.... waaaaaaahhh!

slovenlydotcom · 14/04/2011 19:57

I know I will be hounded out of this thread and probably subjected to physical violence, but these posts made me go aahh. My DC are 9 and 6 so I just went all nostalgic......

runs away

None of it would be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that i haven't had any proper sleep for 4 years ...

(grin) there is a card through my door to say my neighbour has a parcel for me.........

it does get better, although looking back I don't know how I got through those times, but I did.

wasnomore my dd (7 and a bit months) has just worked out how to roll. And, at exactly the same time she went from sleeping 7pm to 6am to waking hourly. I keep repeating "its just a phase, this too will pass" but its bloody hard work in the meantime!

oh and before anyone gets Envy over her normal sleeping, her big brother didn't sleep for longer than 90mins until he was 14mths so i have definitely earnt a sleeper this time!

washnomore · 15/04/2011 18:52

Hippy given her brother still generally disturbs me at least once a night and is nearly 4, I thought I'd also earned a sleeper this time. It seems not. I must have been Ghengis Khan in a past life :(

Shuffles in, bumping into door frame on way...combination of slight cold, first teeth any day now and just hit 9 month sleep regression and ds is waking up hourly. All night. I envy his dad downstairs on the sofa bed.

Last night I went to sleep at 8pm. ffs.

He started waking up a bit more when he started to crawl, and would be crawling around the cot crying, like "Where am i going?! I don't know what I'm doing......wahhhhhh!" but now he can crawl and stand up and has just gone mental.

Is there an emoticon yet for "at wits end"? Something nice and graphic like a noose perhaps.

He's a lovely boy really.

washnomore · 15/04/2011 20:52

@ noose! IKWYM, life is shades of grey at the moment. Not looking forward to the crawling Hmm

washnomore, yup, my eldest stills wakes me at least once a night too! how did you get on at the weekend?

nethunsreject · 18/04/2011 10:50

Oh, hello, hello.

I am Grin at noose emoticon.

Mt ds2 can NEARLY walk and is waking even more frequently than normal. He is the shit sleeper I earned after ds1, my Dream Baby.

Swear to God, he is gonna kill me

washnomore · 18/04/2011 11:19

(Good?) morning!

She's back down to waking 3 times for a feed but having an hour or two around 2am when she's just awake.

Joy.
