Does better daytime napping lead to better nights?

Hi all,

DS is 6 weeks 3 days. I know he's still little so I'm not too concerned that he doesn't sleep longer than 3-4 hours at night without a feed. He's recently started to nap for longer in the day (1-2 hours, and yesterday, 3). It used to be more like 45 mins. Unfortunately I can't catch up on sleep as he'll only nap in the sling, buggy or on me. But I'm getting secretly excited that longer daytime naps might start having a good effect on his nighttime sleep. Anyone care to agree with me?!

If it feels good, do it! Grin Can't hurt.

Reikizen, do you mean carry on with longer daytime naps? I think I will, want to be led by what DS seems to want. Anyone have any experience of whether this can lead to longer sleeps at night?

Yes. DD (6wks) sleeps much better if she's had a decent afternoon nap. If she skips it it takes much longer to settle her on the evening.

Definitely is the case IME. When my DD started napping properly she started sleeping better at night too. Even now at 3, no nap in the day usually means an earlier rise the next morning.

I agree. Sleep begets sleep.
