So, what worked for you in dropping middle-of-the-night milk in a toddler?

DD2 is 19mo, and for the past couple of months has got into the habit of a cup of milk when she wakes in the night. As DD1 was suffereing from huge sleeping issues and we were on our knees and so struggling at work etc, I let DD2 carry on with her milk as I knew that at least one of them would sleep.
I now need to break that habit!
Do i go cold turkey and offer water? she has been necking a whole carton of formula during the night - do i offer less and less? water it down?

I am keen not to have too much screaming so that DD1 doesnt wake, but am prepared to be firm for a few nights.....

i let mine grow out of it. eventually they start sleeping through, or you can leave a drink by the bed.

but then i am lazy

That's what I feared you'd say Wink

You can do it :)

thanks for the encouragement. Cartons run out tomorrow, so will resist buying more....

If she manages to break your will in the middle of the night then there is always the 'emergency cows milk solution'. Good luck :)

go from carton to cows milk?

If using bottle change to a lidded beaker, that worked for my ds!

olivo · 04/04/2011 22:22

swapped from bottle to beaker a couple of weeks ago, and that seemed to go ok; she usually has milk from a beaker during the day. COuld do cow's milk as emergency, she has that during the day, am just too lazy to go downstairs to get it and convince myself that as she's veggie, she'll get a vitamin boost from the formula!!

thanks everyone - I'm going to start tonight!!

Hi Olivio, I am interested to know if this helped my 21 month old is driving me bananas, drinks a milk in the night then needs a nappy change as so wet.

Did cold turkey work?

olivo · 08/04/2011 17:36

Hello PAnchey - I have a confession - I havent needed to do it. She has slept through the past 3 nights Shock! However, I have no more formula left, so now I take a cup of water upstairs, just in case. I am not going back! also, she ats much better at breakfast time as she is obviously now hungry.
good luck to you!
