Nappy changing at night

DD goes to bed at about 6.30pm and I tend to change her nappy when she wake for feed between midnight and one.

She then sleep till about 5.30 am and i change her nappy again.

do others change their LOs in the middle of the night or do you wait as you think it wakes them up to much?

I worry that she will be sitting in a wet nappy and that won't be comfortable of pleaseant for her.

How old is she? How many times does she wake for a feed?

AFAIK the rule is not to change the nappy unless dirty or very wet (it'll just disturb them more)

daisystone · 29/03/2011 07:10

She's 4 months. Only wakes for feed about midnight-one-ish and then at about 5.30 ish

I change Boy once in the night normally, because otherwise by 4am he has soaked through nappy, vest, sleepsuit and sleeping bag. It's easier to change 1 nappy than all that. He's never been difficult to get back to sleep though.

I don't change DS unless his nappy is dirty. I remember the early days of changing him at night and he always woke up so much he was a nightmare to re-settle. I don't want to go there again unless absolutely necessary!

BananaPie · 29/03/2011 17:00

I change after every feed at night just incase - how can you tell if it's dirty without pretty much taking it off?

BatFlattery · 29/03/2011 19:39

I change DS once during the night when he wakes for his feed between 2am and 4am. Otherwise he gets very wet and the nappy then tends to leak through vest, sleepsuit and sleeping bag, same as ethelina. He goes back down the ssame regardless of whether changed or not usually.

daisystone · 30/03/2011 08:07

BananaPie - my thoughts exactly! You may as well as change it if it is half off anyway.

"I don't change DS unless his nappy is dirty. I remember the early days of changing him at night and he always woke up so much he was a nightmare to re-settle. I don't want to go there again unless absolutely necessary!" Exactly like Matana, I could always smell it if dirty, the second I walked in the room.

I used to till I discovered that Pampers hold 12 hours of wee - Boots Own nappies never did. He isn't bothered by the weight of them either, it seems.

I also know he won't have pooed - DS poos every third morning at 8am (weird) so I'm happy leaving them. It wakes him up too much!

matana · 30/03/2011 22:20

Thanks Teaandcakeplease, i thought i was the only one with a particularly sensitive nose... or a baby whose poo smells different to wee. Confused

If the nappy is leaking by 4am, go up a size. I would only change during the night if dirty and could always smell it the minute I walked in the room.

MamaLazarou · 31/03/2011 20:02

I never change my little boy at night unless he poos. Pampers Baby Dry are brilliant. As others have said, go up a size if necessary.

ethelina · 31/03/2011 21:39

My 6 month old is in size 4+ already, he's at the very bottom of the weight guide. He still gets through by 4am. Have had best results with the Nature Baby ones from sainsburys, sometimes he's dry at 4 but wet by 6 in them. Every other nappy on the market lets it through by 4am, the worst ones are Huggies which are done by midnight.

daisystone · 01/04/2011 10:41

Huggie are rubbish.

huggies that is...

I stopped changing DS in the night as soon as he stopped pooing with every feed - around 2 months - as it was too disturbing for his sleeping.... He's never leaked through (we use Pampers Baby Dry if that makes a difference).
