Teething or sleep regression or something else?

My nearly 8mo DS was awake every 1 1/2 hours last night (other than once when he woke after 45 minutes instead). Suddenly his normal waking-every-three-hours doesn't seem so bad after all Grin. At the time I assumed this was the beginning of the 8/9 month sleep regression, and just accepted it with resignation, but I've noticed one of his top teeth has just come through, so I'm wondering now if it was that? I guess I just want to know whether I should expect more of the same tonight, and prepare accordingly, or if it could have been teething, and if it happens again we should dose him with Calpol.
There is another possibility too... We lowered his cot mattress yesterday, as he's pulling up now. DH is convinced this is the problem (though not sure what we could actually do about it) - is this possible?

Could be any of the above.

But if he's pulling up it's probably that. Developmental. What does he do when he wakes up? You might find that he stands up all the time. Sometimes they do it when they're asleep (practising new skills) and it wakes them up. It's just the new skill. Once he's mastered it properly he'll sleep better, assuming it's not teething/illness/something else.

They do it when they start walking too. Hard to settle, find them standing, crying, fidgeting, waking frequently, unsettled when asleep. It's because their brains are busy working on gross motor skills.

Thanks for your advice. I know what you mean, as when he was learning to crawl, he was forever waking up on his hands and knees. However, I don't think he's been standing up in his cot in his sleep though I'll watch out for it. It became apparent that his tooth was really bothering him, which surprised me a bit as he wasn't too bothered when his first two actually came through (although had suffered with teething pain on and off for about three months by then). With teething gel and the odd dose of Calpol he has been much happier. And back to 'only' waking up every three hours.
