Ds is nearly 17 weeks. He has four naps a day varying from 2 hrs to 45 mins. I have been so lucky in that I have just been able to put him in his basket, pop his dummy in and voila, he would go to sleep (although I have had to resettle him after his first sleep cycle).

These past few days, it's like he has forgotten how to go to sleep. He grizzles so much (I have been shh-ing him when hes like this and picking him up when he cries). Last night, he would not settle at all. Put him to bed at 7.30pm. We had a mixture of chatting, nearly going to sleep, grizzling, full on crying, he finally settled at 9.45pm. He is normally asleep within 15 mins of being put in his basket.

Tell me it will get better again. I have been so spoilt and am at a loss what to do and how to deal with it.

My 2 children started teething at 3 months, so I began putting a bit of bonjela on their gums to soothe them before settling for naps/ bedtime by this stage and it definitely helped. They both had 2 teeth by 4 months already. Those teetha sachets with chamomile in also worked an absolute charm to calm them.

If my children were over tired they definitely slept worse though. There is a sleep regression at about this stage as well which can also throw a cat amongst the pigeons. As long as you're consistent they should settle down again.

Also when they begin to get a cold they cannot tell you their throat hurts for example, so you're left thinking it's all gone wrong and they've turned into a bad sleeper etc and then within a couple more days the nose starts streaming and you realise the sleep was related to coming down with a cold.

Have you take his temperature?

Routine wise what worked for mine at this stage was a nap about every 90 mins to 2 hrs in the day and to be in bed by 6.30pm or sooner if they were showing tired signs or going quiet, rubbing their nose etc. I did jig my routines a lot for naps with my children, if they had slept badly the night before or woken early their nap times would change and become sooner or longer etc.

Hopefully something in my long rambling post will help Smile
